Where does this girl's name come from? Is it short for something? My daughter loves Woolly and Tig on Cbeebies and it makes me wonder every time I watch it. The family in it are Scottish...is it a gaelic/scottish name?

Antigone? (Greek, I think)

gallicgirl · 18/01/2013 21:16

Antigone is definitely Greek. Surprising choice for a name though, can't imagine there's many kids around called that.

TiggerWearsATriteSmile · 18/01/2013 21:17

I thought you were calling me!

Carry on.....

Ninjacat · 19/01/2013 08:52

The Tig's I know are Tamsins.

meditrina · 19/01/2013 08:54

Alexandra.

Em2010 · 19/01/2013 09:02

For some reason I was thinking Tabitha...

saycheeeeeese · 19/01/2013 09:05

I've wondered about this too!

CelticPromise · 19/01/2013 09:07

I just googled Tiggy Legge-Bourke and she's an Alexandra. What's that all about?

Ha Matilda you need to get on the dead or alive thread!

wonkylegs · 19/01/2013 09:18

The only Tiggy I know was short for his surname Tigglesworth

MummyPig24 · 19/01/2013 09:27

I know a little girl called Tiggy, short for Antigone, her father is Greek.

Bluestocking · 19/01/2013 09:46

Tiggy Legge-Bourke's nickname is something to do with Mrs Tiggywinkle the Beatrix Potter hedgehog.

topsyturner · 19/01/2013 09:50

Teigan possibly ?

seeker · 19/01/2013 09:50

I know a Tig short for Agatha.

I also used to know a Plods, short for Penelope.

Posh people are sometimes very odd........

persephoneplum · 19/01/2013 11:11

I know an Antigone who is Tiggy, Tig and Tigs for short. It's a heavenly name - adore it.

LingDiLong · 19/01/2013 16:49

Thanks all. I think it's quite a cute name for a child but you'd definitely need a longer version for when you're an adult. The child on the TV program is very, very cute and definitely suits the name.

I agree with it being a obvious nickname for Antigone. There was a girl a couple of years below me at school called Antigone. I think it's a lovely name!

hatebeak · 19/01/2013 20:11

I thought it was Theresa for some reason...

sydlexic · 19/01/2013 20:22

I know a Tiegan called Tigs.

MoelFammau · 19/01/2013 21:08

Teagan?

MoodyDidIt · 19/01/2013 21:09

SanityClause · 19/01/2013 21:11

I know a girl called Tiggie. As far as I know, it is her name, not short for anything.
