I really like it and think it's a good, solid, masculine name but not sure if I'm brave enough to use it as I'm sure some people will think it's a really odd choice. I'd love to know your immediate and honest first reactions to it. I know I shouldn't be bothered by what other people think but that's how I am...obviously, or I wouldn't be asking for your opinions.

I love Arthur, was very soundly vetoed by DH though.

I did think 'Athur Fowler' for a second BUT, I do really like the name Arthur!

I love it actually, cure on a little boy, but 'mannish' enough for when he is older.

I knew someone at university called this and thought it was unbelievably posh. But like it now.

Personally, I don't like it...but as a small child out next door neighbour was called Arthur so maybe I've just got it in my head as an old man's name. I have come across it on a few small boys though so it seems socially acceptable. Sorry, I'm not really much help!

I don't think you have to be brave - there's quite a few Arthurs round our way. I didn't used to like it but am becoming inured as I get to know more of them.

King of the Britons! (Might get some minor teasing when his friends discover Monty Python in their early teens). As associations go, it's pretty good.

Catsu Wed 26-Dec-12 17:11:25

It was my boy name when I had dd. it's gorgeous!!

FaLaLaLaLauraPalmer Wed 26-Dec-12 17:31:13

It's a fine name - not unusual at all, currently a very popular, common name. No 'bravery' required!

Clary Wed 26-Dec-12 17:35:16

Arthur not an odd choice. I luuurrrve it. Everyone can spell it and say it and it is nickname free which I like.

Names of that era are becoming more popular as I am sure you know.

I know a lovely one who is 13yo grin - he is the only one in his school (which he likes) but we have come across one or two others (one is in DS2's school, aged 7 I think) so it's not totally out there.

NellyBluth Wed 26-Dec-12 17:36:38

Love love love it. It was very high up our list for a DS. I'm almost slightly annoyed DD has an 'A' name as I don't think we can use Arthur for any future DS's!

KindleMum Wed 26-Dec-12 17:37:27

I don't like it at all but it's very popular at present so I don't see that you need to be brave, if you like it, use it - it's not like he'll be the only Arthur at school - I know 3 under 5 yrs at present.
