I know a male Rowan, but also a female one. I have always thought of Rowan as a a girl's name though.

I know 2 little baby Rowans. Both boys. I like it. Not keen on River though.

I love Rowan but don't like River.

I wouldn't consider Rowan a 'hippy' name though - dd2 would have been it, had she been a ds.

Wolf is ridiculous imho.

Rowan is male (think Rowan Atkinson) it's lovely and goes well with willow, don't think it's hippy though. River is, and sounds silly with willow IMHO, also not a great name to go through life with.

Ii love rowan its on my list, also like river.
I think rowan and willow are a sweet match if you dont mind your kids both have tree names.

I went to college with a guy who wanted to call his kids

wolf
fox
wren
robin
hawk

he thought it would be cool to call his kids after animals, not sure if he ever did.

I like rowan.

I knew a lad called blaidd (pn blithe). It's welsh for wolf.

I know a wee boy called Hunter...I've always quite liked it.

How about naming him after a hill, mountain, or river that means something to you?

Sequoia?

Marin?

Hunter is great!

Or how about Blue? (Friend of mine, Chelsea supporter, gave his son this middle name.)

Not sure about River and Willow, also River just reminds me of River Phoenix, but this may just be because I am old ?

I like Rowan. One of dhs friends is a bit 'hippyish' his 4 ds are named Sylas, Storm, Lyric and Blaze also has a dd Azura.

Archer. Shortened to Archie.

My ds's name is mentioned here.

I like Rowan too, and wondered about having it for a boy. Also Robin.

I know a Merlin (as in the bird not Wizard), a Beck (not sure if he's named after a stream or the pop star), and a Phoenix.

How about some other bird names? Hawk?

I know a Marley (boy). Quite hippyish I think.

I like Rowan for a boy or a girl

Lots of other tree names are nice for a boy though - I've run into Ash, Ashley, Oakley, Larch, Willow amongst others.

There are good Welsh boys names that are a bit hippyish - Osian & Macsen are two of my favourites.

I wouldn't think of River as particularly American, certainly its used plenty in the UK.

Sorry, obv. Willow no good as you already have one!

Report
Highlandgirl · 27/02/2011 20:25

IMO I would stay away from another tree based name, since you already have a Willow. Therefore I don't think Rowan would be right (but I do like the name)

What about Rohan instead?

Moss
Fox
Finch
Cannon
Ash / Asher
Rusty
Heath
Red
Soul
Bleu
Tiger
Laird
Indianian (only cos Indy is a bloody brilliant NN)
Marley
Bear ( FYI Bear Grylls, has 3 sons: 2 are called Marmaduke, Huckleberry)

Any good? Wink

Wolf, Hunter, Archer, Hawk, Storm... I'm getting some Gladiators vibes here! (immature, I know... Grin)

I'm going to chip in Seren - Welsh for Star, and I always thought it sounded lovely.
