Is it very cruel to call a little girl...

I really love unusual names but be honest with me, is it evil to call a little girl:

Apple
or...
Elfie

DH thinks so. I did have my heart set of Florence after my favourite cousin-in-law, but the Camerons have nicked it :(

To be honest I think Apple is a bit silly, though not the worst name I've ever heard.

I like Elfie, but think should be a nickname for a longer option - Elvina eg?

I think Apple is way to obviously a copycat move. I really like Plum though.Blush

Elfie is fine so long as she doesn't end up on the hefty side - which would be unfortunate for her. Just think ahead about all the bad connotations before you pick anything.

It's not evil, just will limit her career options and earning potential as an adult.

I think Elfie is lovely. Perhaps Elfriede as full name?

Yes and Yes.

You can still use Florence.

You can't pick apple. People will just think you copied Gwyneth, although, they copied somebody else in chris martin's circle of acquaintance when she did that!

Plum is a scrotum n'est pas?

I like just Elf, or Leaf.

Ha ha DH will be very pleased... Not all bad for Elfie though... (I'm a very positive person) but I take the point about Apple. It's so cute though!

I have an Effy which is quite like Elfie. It gets mixed reactions but I love it and it really suits her.

I like Elfie.

Not Apple though, and it's already been done by a sleb couple.

BelligerentGhoul · 04/10/2010 21:48

Evil.

Apple is ridiculous and will make people think you copied that idiot from Cold Play.

Elfie nice as a nn but not as a real name.

If you're in Souf London, we'll all think you're calling your son, Alfie, when you call for 'Elfie'

Report
twolittlekings · 04/10/2010 22:02

Yes the one and the same! Now I shall never think of Flora in the same light :(

Ha ha sorry twolittlekings

Elfie is getting a better reaction that I expected - I'm going to work on DH a bit more...

I like the Elfriede idea.

Hm.
Can you not just do what the posh folks do and call the baby, say, Antonia. Then nickname her Apple/Elfie/Pixie/Teddy/Muffy/La/Grub or whatever.

twolittlekings · 04/10/2010 22:06

or use as a middle name - we have quite a few friends who have done this.
