They are the sweetest substance every created - lord knows what they use to meet their low sugar claim!
Diluted fruit juice in this house with the odd Capri Sun for a treat when we are out (strangely, apparently they are higher in sugar but to my taste, don't seem as sweet)
UANBU
I do not believe for one moment they quench thirst - know that sounds stupid as they are liquid - but does anyone else notice that they will GUZZLE (no other word for it) one down and then 10 minutes later they are thirsty again.
My ds has lovely manners but I cannot stand to be in his vicinity if he is drinking fruit shoot (they slurp more than water as they drink them faster), so we only really get them very occasionally as a treat after school for on the way home ( he sometimes wants one instead of ice cream).
My dh sometimes comes home with them as well when they are on special offer at the wholesaler - despite being told not too and I sulk and strop for at least a week, ds only drinks them as they are there and then 10 minutes later wants another one!!!! Or asks for a glass of water because he is thirsty. Hate them!
They had Capri sun, but my youngest is eighteen months and so I thought it would go all over him.....I thought the sports cap was a good idea....
I took DS to a cafe last year assuming that they would sell fruit juice that I could dilute with water (will not touch plain water or milk) but they only had the dreaded Fruit Shoots. I relented and bought one for DS. Never again. He was leaning over his highchair and grabbing me by my jacket lapels and he tried to headbutt me, I shit you not.

I quite agree. If you read the contents list on the label of the strawberry one backwards whilst listening to Black Sabbath the devil will appear. Honest!
Mindy, they contain aspartame which is sweeter than sugar.

DD was given one at a party. We kept the bottle and put diluted juice/water in from then on. Everybody happy.

DS has only had one when at a friend's house because her children all drink them. I don't buy them for DS but he has had them v rarely in restaurants when there's been no alternative.
not a great fan of them either OP.

the normal fruit shoots don't contain aspartame do they? Thought it was only the "low sugar" ones that did (as with just about every other "no added sugar" product on the market
Don't want to sound all MNetty preachy but campocaro, please don't re-use those bottles
I am going to keep the bottles, as my dss lose their proper ones all of the time. My dcs looked at me as if I'd given them £20 when i handed them out!!
TBH, they don't have them and I make no judgements, honest guv, about people that give them to their dcs....
I am super pissed off about my carpet!
Ah, I've only checked the back of the no sugar one I gave to DS and it had aspartame in (shoot me now) I kind of assumed that the normal ones did too since they claim to be low in sugar they have to make them uber-sweet somehow...

Haha DS asked for a fruitshoot the other day from a vending machine (which was really cool by the way - we ended up buying another bottle just to watch it go
).
He had it, there was no fallout, it tasted like bubblegum - but because of Bloody Mumsnet I had to read the ingredient guide and.....it wasn't that bad, the aspartame is obviously a bad idea but given that he doesn't get anything else like that I figured it wasn't going to kill him.
Everything in moderation.

normal fruit shoot ingredients (still full of crap
- but I don't see it on that list?)
I think they're so sweet because of the Glucose-Fructose Syrup and Sugar on the list LOL

Why shouldn't you re-use the bottles?
My nieces don't really notice what's in them (usually very weak fruit juice), they just like the sports cap style bottle, perfect size for little hands.

Did you see that Jo Frost programme where she gave half the group of children a sugary tea and half a healthy tea but even the mums of the healthy group said their children behaved badly afterwards ? Just wondering if children really are affected by these-or just that some parents expect it.Mine never have been.
Saying that I hate fruit shoots, they are so sweet, yuk.

I cant see the problem with washing them out well and reusing them either?
