AIBU?

Bombarding me with party information through my door isn't going to make me vote for Labour/Conservative/Lib dems. I wish they would save the postage/trees and STOP!

So far today I have had 3 seperate lots of Labour info, a letter addressed to me in an envelope from Gordon Brown, yesterday I had 2 lots of Lib Dem info from the local counsellor I never hear from unless there's an election, the day before I had 2 lots of Conservative information sheets.

This is why I hate the elections! I Know who I am going to vote for, AIBU to tell them all to piss off, it's a waste of trees, a waste of stamps and a waste of my time!

Am I right in thinking you live in a marginal seat then? Cos if you do you're in a pretty privileged position and should possibly stop moaning I live in an ultra-safe seat where my vote counts for absolutely nowt, and I've had absolutely no communications from any of the parties. I'd happily swap with you...

are you in a marginal seat? We haven't had anything yet.

Pop a note on your door saying 'no flyers' and you won't for anyone that puts one through .

I'm in Derby. It's like this every year, the local elections are just as bad. I've had to resort to putting a 'no more election info please' note on my door for the last 4 years. None of them keep their promises anyway, they should save the trees, there's more then enough info in the newspaper and on the TV, I don't want personalised letters from Labour people I've never heard of, I don't want personalised letters from Gordon Brown either! He can shove them up his

There was a poster on here the other week saying that she was tempted not to vote at all because she hadn't had any communication from the parties, and didn't see why she should vote for a party who couldn't be bothered to contact her.

So they can't win really, can they.

I've been delivering some leaflets today

Report
omaoma · 10/04/2010 22:29

what really freaks me out is the way all of the leaflets' design LOOK THE SAME - there is no way to identify the party except by the background colour which to be honest isn't always obvious because there's so much flipping type and horrible pictures on it. Don't they understand the principles of design? It's not possible read these things all the way thorugh. It would be more effective to just send blue/red/yellow piece of paper saying 'VOTE FOR US!' and the name of the candidate.

If they are going to send me stuff then there's no need to send me the same info over and over again as they have for the last 7 years! Less is more no?

Has anyone received their voting card yet (sorry OP dont want to start another thread about a thread) ?

If not do I need to register? as we have moved house from last vote.

Report
BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 10/04/2010 22:37

You should register if you have moved, they normally send people round in October if you have not sent the electoral role form back.

I recieved mine before they announced the date of the general election

I've just put whole load of the same in my recycling bin

I do wonder why DP was the one who got his own 'personal' letter from Gord though. I feel left out!

Oxfam pens really are household tat - they never work.

At least with the politics junk-mail, I can put it straight out for recycling without having to fish out the crap pen first.

Every cloud and all that

FlyingFig, your DP has had his letter from GB because the Royal Mail will deliver one communication per voter at election time. So, one letter per voter. Your letter will come in a couple of weeks time, so it act as a little reminder nearer the time! No point sending the same communication on the same day to the same house.

I've been out leafleting today too. From the conversations I had with people out and about today, most people expect a leaflet and are annoyed not to get one.

If you want to know what the parties' policies are, then read the leaflets.

If you don't read them, then don't complain that you don't know what the parties are all about or what their policies are.

And don't moan that they're not trying to talk to you/communicate with you.

What the bloody hell else are they supposed to do to interact with you? Come round and spend time with you every evening?

Am I a freak then for reading all the leaflets?

Got a rather impressive one from the labour candidate (am in a safe tory seat) plus a hilarious tory one featuring a photo of 3 x archetypal Tim Nice-But-Dim councillors on the front. Nowt from the lib dems or tory parliamentary candidate yet.

The stuff that they post through the door means naff all IMO. I read the newspapers, I watch the TV, I know what their policies are, I also know that once they are in then they will do what they want so their policies don't mean shit. I don't want crap that slags off other parties pushed through my letter box. It's the same stuff every year.

I care about where I live, I would like an update so I know about what they are doing incase I've not spotted anything, once or twice a year is fine by me, I just don't want this at election time, it's not going to encourage me to vote for them, it's too late.

I'm fed up with them knocking on the door at 3pm when I'm about to do the school run / feel too tired to talk to anyone. And I will definitely vote so not apathetic.

What I find hard is that although I would like a change, when it comes down to voting, I like my MP (Labour) very much. So when I see his face through my letterbox, I find I lose the strength to vote for anyone else.

We got a thing from the conservatives through the door today. Has pointed out to me that our constituency has changed (not sure I would have realised otherwise ).

Ok, a little bit of info is fine, I really don't need things every day though, it's starting to feel like groundhog day here, they even push things through the door on Sundays, where's the day of rest??
