Tip of the day

Don't get in a panic over Christmas. Keep a box and put a little in it every week - small gifts, wine, nibbles, napkins etc. This way, you'll be more relaxed and less skint in December! keriku

Quote of the week

CaptainNancy's (admirably succinct) family rules: "Don't be a dingbat/duffer. Keep calm and carry on. Dream big. Shut up and get on with it."

Recipe of the week

Carmenere's cinder toffee: sweet, sticky, made-in-five-minutes toffee squares that'll spark off a few 'yums' among the 'oohs' and 'aahs' of your little fireworks-watchers.

morloth - your post is most amusing looked at from active convos grin. 'I have a full set of le creuset and often have a piss....' That has made me happy ever since you posted it. Just thought you'd like to know....

I have a full compliment of le Creuset and often have a pissed Aussie husband, does that count?

tommypickles, I thought you flounced? Flouncers just can't help themselves.

Leave NMs alone I had a look there, found them all a bit too nice for my liking and came back to the angry, jeering, drooling beasts.

Argh!! We've been invaded by the Huns! wink

Tommy - you're a knobjockey, and I hope you're a little bit ashamed, cause what you've done here is purile and pathetic and actually i don't find it in the least bit amusing. Although I'm going to use "knobjockey" as my insult of choice now, alongside "goat felching cunt bucket" and "smelly piss flaps".

i dont use NM but i do still go on RK...not as often as on here mind you - i quite like the honesty on here though it can sometimes be a bit brutal!

RK is quite soft and fluffy though heavily modded, sounds quite similar to NM!

did someone say this site was modded? cos ive not seen any modding going on?
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Fri 03-Jul-09 23:47:07
I think a fair few folk use both sites. You come across as a complete snob TBH.
I detest all this them and us type crap
different strokes for different folks.
"She's just trying to stamp her mark"

Bollocks. She's trolling.
Who did that? <whats going to happen now>
agree with soupdragon, this kind of behaviour is pathetic.
Oh no, it’s got nothing to do with whether you are well-off or not or whatever. I said you were a snob because in your other thread you said you were shocked at a mum’s neglectful behaviour particularly because she had a 4x4 and was therefore middle class. So you make assumptions about how good a mother someone is by their car or what social class they belong to.

And as for the netmums thread, well I’m not a fan of NM and hate all the fluffy “hun” stuff. But you seem to be criticising the other mothers on there for not having as much money as you do, and for supposedly forcing their children into work so that they can take all their money off them and rob them of any chance of a university degree…? Which of course nice, superior, middle class children all have. Then you take piss out of them on here. I don’t get the joke…?

Maybe I am coming across as being harsh and I know I shouldn’t have said you were a “terrible snob” as it’s a personal remark. So, what I meant to say is that imo your attitude is “terribly snobbish” because it seems that you believe that being middle class, having more money or a 4x4 makes you a superior human being!
I actually know one woman who goes on NM.

She's a fruit shoot giving, smoking, tattood, loony. But I like her and she's a good mother. She says she's met some lovely people on NM, I think it's a bit softer.
<nods impressedly at hecate's constant sensibleness>
I think you're all being a tad harsh. She's just trying to stamp her mark. A bit too hard. Hardly a crime. And i'm sure you've seen it a million times before.
Lol is this a new way of trolling then, openly admitting it and having us follow them on other internet boards

great idea hmm
I admit to being a MNetter and a NMer.

They both have their places. Mumsnet is v.funny and v.sharp. It is also v.brutal and can be v.picky (I fully expect to get hmm for all the v.s i am using).
There are quite a few members on NM who would be torn limb from limb on MNs and they need somewhere they can go.

Some people need the huns and hugs. Some people prefer the 'get a grip' approach more favoured on this site.

The thing I find hardest about NMs is the amount of 'bloody asylum seekers getting free cars and living in mansions' and 'its pc gone mad' posts. And just as you get stuck in to a good argument the thread gets pulled.

But its not half as cynical as MNs. I suppose I feel more at home here because I was bought up as Cynicalist (like a methodist but with more hmm).

I like to pop over to NMs though. Some people have been really lovely to me over there and I can be a bit needy grin

Did I post supportively on OP's other AIBU thread earlier? Think I did.

So, was that a wind up then?

I am not having my greatest day and confused as to what I am supposed to be finding amusing here..

Please can someone explain it to me. In simple terms. Like I'm an idiot.
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Fri 03-Jul-09 21:33:50

You know what? I am sure the people who choose to post on netmums are exactly the same as those who choose to post on here - some intelligent, some, erm...wink, some text speakers, some pedants, some take-it-on-the-chinners, some ott sensitive how-very-dare-yous, some really nice, funny, fab people and some stirring bitchy shits...

I am sure it is as diverse as this place.

I tell you what though. One of the things I see people criticising is the delete-happy mods..but it's no different here these days, is it?

And tbh, netmums, mumsnet, babythingie - who gives a shit? People find their 'place' and settle down there.

<waves in friendly manner to any nmers who are lurking>
Oh.. I have read both your threads now OP.... and have come to the conclusion that you're rather a knob.

I second what dp is saying.
Extremely rich people are usually very polite, and not snobbish at all. The newly rich, or noveau riche, are the worst. wink
Wasn't this the Sainsbury's + 4x4 + "not that type of people" thread?
ok...extremely rich people, ( people who were born into it) have breeding and manners, plus they're so rich they really couldn't give a toss....the aspiring rich have hang ups...

Le Creuset pans are the heavy orange cast-iron ones you got given as wedding presents in the 80s

the quote is from a classic 'things not to do' thread where an inordinate number of MNers admitted to dropping said pans on their feet / dogs / glasses
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Fri 03-Jul-09 20:27:07
No earlier wasn't a wind up, but it ended well and all I got from people here was that they enjoy slagging each other off.

First post on nm wasn't wind up either but once I saw how people jump down your throat I thought I'd take it further.

Why is it when people assume you must be well off they also assume you must be a snob??

So actually there's something wrong with that
oh panties.sorry-i read things then forget ive read them.but id quite like to be a boozy fishwife too.
Cheese, I know I just like MrsBadgers reasons as to why we are here and NM are there. grin
I don't normally post on AIBU but I found your thread on Netmums easily by following the links (netmums coffeehouse - teens and older children - teens, home and family) as it was the first thread.

After reading that and your comments on the other thread about middle class mums and 4x4s, I think you're a terrible snob, and your "wind-up" is not funny at all imo.
Confuzzeled i think you are Confuzzeled.

this is a yawnsome attention seeker and you are talking saucepans-very nice ones -but saucespans
I don't know what a Le Creuset saucepan is but I do have a pissed scottish husband and would like to be a boozy fishwife.

I think if you're in a fluffy happy place it would be a bit surprising to come across a shouty thread, it doesn't mean they are particularly different as people, just that it's a different environment.
