AIBU?

to want to ask my MIL to come and help us for a few days.

i've deleted a very long post explaining why I need help, but have realised how pathetic it sounded.

FYI we're all ill with D&V or just recovering and totally worn out. It's been going on for a couple of weeks now. She offered to come and stay last week but we said we were ok. She is our nearest family (5 hours drive away) and we've never asked for help like this before.

But no, we're going to man up and get on with it. I don't want her to get ill and couldn't cope with the guilt if she did.

So IABU, it's alright, i know.
i'm not going to ask her.

but could some lovely mumsnetters come and virtually tuck us all in, and maybe make some soup and tidy up the kitchen?

Thanks.

Aw dragon. Here have some brandy for your tummy.

OK, love you MNers and all that, but I won't tidy your kitchen, sorry.

Tuck you in, glass of lukewarm water by the bed, a bucket there too just in case. Some nice essential oils in the room to get rid of the smell of v&D. Night night, sleep well.

can you leave the landing light on so we can get to the loo in the night?

If she has offered to come and help then there's no problem - she might be pleased to be asked.
I had a horrible sickness bug as Xmas - my dd phoned my mum who came and took them for a couple of days which was the best thing for all of us.
Hope you all feel better soon.

Have just popped extra loo roll (posh ones) in the bathroom.

Have changed all the towels and brought them home to wash on a hot wash.

Also I have scrubbed all door handles and toilet flush handles to minimise the spread of infection.

Dragon, you poor darling! Here's a big momma hug and now I'll tuck you in with your favourite story.

What would you like me to read?

I don't know if this might help but I had a mild tummy bug a few weeks ago and drank warm water with as much lemon juice as I could stand. The lemon creates acidic conditions in your tum in which the bugs can't thrive. It helped me and it's a darn sight better for you than flat coke. Worth a try?

could you read me the ikea catalogue? and don't miss any pages. I'll know.

thanks for the sympathy everyone.
it actually feels very nice.

will get some lemon tomorrow.

I've popped some nice little pots of yeo valley yogurt in your fridge to help with the "good bugs" when you are feeling better.

Sweet dreams.

wow mrsmh, i appreciate all that effort.

am sat on my ektorp watching little miss sunshine. can't believe it won an oscar. looks like the americans are so impressed with themselves for producing a dark film that they've gotten carried away at the oscar ceremony.
it's shit.

I watched it a few weeks ago, too, dragon. Liked it but wasn't wowed by it. I felt the same about Brokeback and Walk The Line (as per a previous thread). Clearly the Oscar committe have never seen a non-American film.

i'm still watching it though, but that's because everything hurts and i'm too worn out to move.
am going to log off and drag myself to the sofa bed.

Major sympathy. Wehave had D+ bug here since Sunday (everyone apart from me). I have spent 7 days cleaning up after them all, doing tonnes of laundry and cleaning/disinfecting toilets, light switches, door handles etcetc. Been the most boring and sleep deprived week of school holidays ever, not to mention a waste of 4 very valuable days of holiday from work for dh.

Report
nevergoogledragonbutter · 12/04/2009 08:38

I think i may have escaped the bug. I was sure it was looming yesterday but now think it might just be sheer exhaustion. (although that doesn't quite explain the nausea and stomach pains )
I feel a bit brighter this morning though.

still want MIL to come and take over for a bit. that would be lovely.

i need a holiday.

I don't understand why you don't ask her, especially if she wants to come. Mothers LOVE doing that sort of thing and you don't get extra brownie points for bearing the burden if you can get help if you need it.

Glad you seem to have escaped the bug tho.

If she's offered, and means it (as opposed to the "Do you want me to help?" ( please please please say no) offer, where they huff and puff - you know the type
where was I?

Oh yes, if she's offered, don't be so daft! Phone her up and ask if her offer is still open. She'll know that coming to a house where people are ill means she might get ill too, and she's obviously ok about that.

oh...unless she gets ill with it while she's with you and you end up looking after her as well!!!

but she's in her 70s.
she does like doing that sort of thing like post-c-sections etc
but she overdoes it and ends up worn out.

my own mother has her own problems.

i am just going to hang in there.

DS1 has extended his vocabulary to include 'sick'

and the sofa covers have been washed!

it's all gooooood.
