. . . should either stay away from the teen section or accept that their contributions are unwittingly hilarious at best or downright insulting at worst?

oops, is that aimed at me? I consider myself suitably chastised and will stay away from that section....

Haven't seen teh thread in question but really think until you have one you really can be forgiven for saying the wrong thing because it is unknown territory and makes toddlers look like the easy life!

nooooo not aimed at anyone in particular - (but now you make me want to do a search) just an observation based on many many many threads

I promise

yabu
I think anyone should be able to post on any thread regardless.

Everybody remembers being a teenager though - (much better than being a toddler!) and sometimes recollections from doing the same thing as a teen can be useful, IMO.

No I don't have teens. I would still contribute if I thought I had something worth saying.

I don't mind if it was aimed at me. I did sort of wade into that thread without even looking at what secion it was in. I even put a disclaimer on the bottom of my post on that thread saying I don't have a teenager. (although at 9 and a half he does a fairly good impression of one at times )

I value opinions form people who are a lot younger than me about teens.I grew up in a different era.

I think I am being a bit unreasonable

but it isn't the same as being the parent.
I can remember being a teen....but being a parent of a teen is totally different.

BitOfFun · 25/02/2009 17:55

They do start younger these days...

laweaselmys · 25/02/2009 17:57

Oh, I have no doubt it is! That's why I very rarely say anything.

But given that teenagers are crap at explaining why they're behaving so oddly, I still think it's useful to have somebody a bit more articulate, but that still remembers to suggest where they might be coming from.

I am in denial that I will have my first teen in less than a year......then when she is over being a teen the youngest 3 will be there, I will have 3 girls teens for 4 successive years

I don't think it matters-just have a wry smile and think -'you wait!'

Hassled · 25/02/2009 18:07

You are being a tad unreasonable, but it is a view that well might have crossed my mind in the past .

Apart from the very young mothers, who have in past given me insights into why my DD has been such a stroppy cow at times. They're young enough to remember the nightmare years...

I like posts from all and sundry. Can add to the interest of the thread if those who are not close to the topic post.

My ds is being particularly obnoxious tonight so may colour my view.2shoes I thought I saw your daughter when i was out having a coffee today but maybe not

And one more thing (I feel like Columbo) -

Due to my ace family planning I managed to go through the toddler tantrum years and the teenage tantrum years simultaneously. The teenagers were worse - they have more vocabulary.
