Is anyone else poised to do extra prepping today, depending on how TM gets on? I already have a pretty good stash, but if it all gets even worse after today’s vote, I might clear out an upstairs cupboard and go for stash 2.0

SalrycLuxx · 15/01/2019 08:10

‘dampers’ are still done round German campfires as standard member (rather than marshmallows)

Member745520 · 15/01/2019 08:11

I bought what I hoped would be my final stash yesterday and planned to spend today reorganising storage. Then I plan to just sit back and enjoy watch the week unfold... Hmm

SalrycLuxx · 15/01/2019 08:11

Not today. The website for consumers is also supposed to go up - I suspect that may cause panic itself, but esp if the WA fails. Plan to wait a few days to see how reaction goes.

SalrycLuxx · 15/01/2019 08:12

I’ve got most of my stash already of course.

cloudtree · 15/01/2019 08:37

fuck bastard shit (DM) I popped into Lidl and Aldi last night.

No dried stuffed pasta or fuck fuck (DM) long life gnocchi in Aldi - I asked and was told it has been take off line whatever that means.

No UHT milk left in Lidl.

Clearly more demand than fuck (DM) usual.

Even my very relaxed BF sent me fuck (DM) a text last night saying that she is now listening and is going to stock up a bit at the weekend.

AnotherShirtRuined · 15/01/2019 08:43

Excellent swearing, cloudtree! Grin

cloudtree · 15/01/2019 08:48

Thanks, I like to give things my all Grin

RegularShowRules · 15/01/2019 09:01

Will we find out tonight the result of the vote?

bellinisurge · 15/01/2019 09:04

The result is at about 7(maybe before). Reminds me of Obama's inauguration clashing with DD's bedtime and I made her wait up so I could watch it.
Assume damp squibness. Unlike Obama's inauguration.

bellinisurge · 15/01/2019 09:05

Thanks satsuma, btw.Brew

Onescaredmuma · 15/01/2019 09:15

I was planning on starting prepping today however after loosing my purse and cancelling my cards it's going to have to wait again! if anyone has any advice for idiots who balls up everything they attempt I need a prepping for beginners course (or possibly prepping for dummies)

SalrycLuxx · 15/01/2019 09:25

one

Do a meal plan for three days, work out what you’d need to have in, then go out and buy it. If you can’t afgird all at once, but bits weekly on top of your regular shopping.

Once you have that in, think about increasing stocks and remember to cycle through the food so it doesn’t go out of date. (One In, one out)

Don’t buy anything you wouldn’t normally eat.

HexagonalBattenburg · 15/01/2019 09:35

I'm making sure we've had recent prescriptions filled of the family's medication and the like... and that the store cupboards have a decent amount in there - but not much more than normal really on that front.

If all else fails my mum has enough food squirrelled away that she could feed us all for about a decade and we'd go there (she grew up having nothing so always prioritised a good store cupboard so we could at least eat).

bellinisurge · 15/01/2019 09:37

Agree with @SalrycLuxx , @Onescaredmuma . Sod's law has a habit of applying and you have to find some way of shaking it off. Experienced prepper here who has a habit of forgetting to buy toothpaste Grin.
Hope your username doesn't reflect your every waking hour.
There's a thread on the Preppers topic focussing on babies and toddlers which you might find helpful.
And remember, you don't need to Be A Prepper to make some sensible plans for Brexit.

thecatsthecats · 15/01/2019 09:46

We've gone for:

Cat food/medicine
Pasta and rice (dry and microwaveable)
Tinned tomatoes
Tinned fish
Beans (baked and butter)
Frozen peas
Frozen meat
Multivitamins
Jam

Enough of all that altogether that we could live on it for about 2-3 fairly miserable weeks (aimed for a balance of carbs, vitamins and protein - jam for pure sugary energy!) with no fresh supplies whatsoever. It's only a little more than we usually have in stock to be fair.

Might add some more variety and depth after the vote/the party that will clear up cupboard space at the weekend. I run a small company and I want to be prepared to give out a little there if people are desperate/haven't prepped. Only of the stuff that really does last, like pasta.

HolySwearingCuss · 15/01/2019 10:06

People at work have been talking about stocking up today, which is unprecedented!

Tumblefluff · 15/01/2019 10:09

I struggle with anxiety and have been burying my head in the sand on purpose. I realise now though that that's not actually going to help in the long run. Read through the Preppers and Brexit boards last night and have started a stash this morning.

I've got vitamins for the kids, Calpol, painkillers, a few toilet rolls, shower gels and soaps, a thrush combi treatment, antiseptic cream, plasters, a few Ella's Kitchen fruit pouches, lip balms, Sudocrem, Vaseline, cotton wool pads, breast pads, adult sun cream. I've got coffee and tea, flours, garlic and tomato pureed, and a few tins, some pasta and lentils.

Next on my list is toothpaste, nappies, san pro, child's sun cream, batteries, light bulbs, yeast, sugar, and up the ante on tins and other dry food stores, as well as frozen veg.
Plus some more Ella's Kitchen as the baby is starting solids in the next couple of months, and another Calpol.

How am I doing?

LonelyandTiredandLow · 15/01/2019 10:14

3 people I know admitted to stockpiling yesterday on the school run. I think general consensus is that if you aren't you are being daft taking the risk.

Feckitall · 15/01/2019 10:14

I admit to having always been a bit Hmm about all of the threads on here, but a few weeks ago did a bit more research, rather than than believing either the 'end is nigh' or 'Daily Mail nothing will change' views and decided to 'prep' for a number of scenarios by adding couple of things each shop in case of:
a) Brexit supply issues
b)Last minute panic and shoppers clearing shelves
c) Bad weather - Met office warnings
If none of those then I have food if I'm short of cash one month, or can take on holiday (caravanner)

All ways I'm covered..

NeverTwerkNaked · 15/01/2019 10:16

My incredibly calm and pragmatic DP (who works for civil service- see prev thread) has been helping me stock up more over the last days.
Am planning get some medicines at lunch time today.

There was a big chat about stocking up for brexit on our local radio station.

I figure if Brexit doesn’t happen then I will just have some lovely small shopping bills for a bit!

Basecamp65 · 15/01/2019 10:20

We normally shop fortnightly so last week bought double of everything non perishable and plan to do so again.

It will do no harm if not needed as it will be used up over time but could be a real help.

I compare it to wearing a seatbelt in a car - the chances are you will not crash and need it but would you really take the risk!!!!

beckyh2502 · 15/01/2019 10:35

This is hilarious. What do you all think is going to happen?

NeverTwerkNaked · 15/01/2019 10:38

@Beckyh2502 i’ve seen the chaos when a few snowflakes fall. Empty shelves, gridlock at the supermarkets. Plus DP and I will be called into work if there are problems so we wouldn’t have time to queue. We don’t lose by being prepared as it is stuff we will use anyway
