To put daughters name on bracelet

Probably the wrong place, but I want the traffic.

I'm step mum and want to buy mum a bracelet from us and her daughter for Xmas.
It needs a name on it.
Is it correct to put DSD name and birth stone, or should it be step mums.

I think you could put either. Is DSD old enough to have an opinion about what her Mum would prefer?

Report
FeralBeryl · 08/12/2016 20:35

I would think it would be the name and birthstone of the recipient?

DSD is old enough to decide but we haven't got her until next week.

I know it's a daft thing to post, but I want it to be perfect!

So you and your dp want to buy a bracelet for his ex, the mother of his daughter and your stepdaughter? If that's the case, I think the daughters name etc would be nicer. Lovely that you want to get it so right!

Mum's name and birthstone...it's her gift.

livsmommy · 08/12/2016 20:55

I would say child's name and birthstone.

I agree it should be the recipient's name. But... do grown adults want their name on bracelets? Not meaning to piss on your bonfire but that seems quite childish to me.
I'd stick with mother's birthstone or just a nice bracelet.

Mum's name and birthstone. What a lovely gift btw, nice and personal. Smile

I think I'd put dd's name and birthstone, but I think either would work. I would personally prefer one with my DC's name.

It's a lovely thing either way!

If it were me I'd want my daughters name.

Lovely idea! I would like my child's name and birthstone, as it's a Christmas present and it involves the child. If it was a birthday present or from a friend, I might like my own birthstone. I hope your lovely idea is much appreciated.

I wouldn't wear jewellery with my own name on it... i'd give her something with her child's name on it though- can you just stick with the birthstone? I think that's nicer.

The more I think about it the more I think other poster's are right and it should be the daughter's name.

How about something like this as an alternative?

When DD was born my sister gave me a bracelet with her date of birth engraved on it in Roman numerals. Possibly a bit random but I really liked it.

Thank you very much, I will go with daughters name or initial then if a name is a bit crap.

We are great friends, people think it's weird... but I genuinely think she's lovely!

I wouldn't want any jewellery with my own name on it.

A friend of mine got a lovely gift from her dh in the form of a charm bracelet with 5 heart charms each with a family member's initial engraved on it including her own. Mum, dad and three kids.

Honestly it wasn't to my own personal taste, but I did think it a very thoughtful and loving gift and I was a little envious of her having a dh who not only thought of it all by himself, but went and got it sorted too. But I digress....

Maybe something like that would be better than a whole name? Two hearts (or stars or whatever) one with mum's initial engraved on it and one with sd's. You could have a birthstone charm as well.

Do what you like. I wouldnt. We do cards with peronalised pictures, I havent ordered anything personalised but I'm sure Grandparents would love personalised stuff. We pay for our own photoshoots, but you have to do you.

Well, I obviously have to post on this thread because of yours and paul's usernames Grin

Personally, I'd put the daughter's name as it's a lovely memento - I'd rather have my son's name on a bracelet than my own.

Pictish has some lovely ideas!

I'm really torn though bwtwen thinking "OP is lovely!" and "OP needs a copy of Wifework for Xmas!" Wink

It's his daughter, the mother of his daughter, his ex. Why is your husband not sorting this out?

I say that as a stepmother myself and the mother of a child with a stepmother.

It's not just a step thing, it's a FFS why is it always the women, thing!

PaulAnkaTheDog · 09/12/2016 23:58

Oh God, why turn it into a bloody women's issue? The op asked for advice on what to buy! Why add in the unnecessary comment on sexism? There are 101 reasons why the op might buy the gift! She's better at picking out jewellery, she likes doing the Christmas shopping, she knows the step mums taste in jewellery better, the husband is ill, the husband is away. I could go on but I won't.
