I totally realise this is all relative. I am just curious as to whether anyone gets theirs paid off in a reasonable amount of time.

I am sick to death of seeing it come out my pay, and have made some over payments in the past to clear it faster.

I earn a decent salary, but have had 2 years maternity leave so no payments made during those periods.

I graduated 11 years ago and still owe £5500 !

I graduated 13 yrs ago and think I have about 2k left.

Some of my friends paid theirs off years ago and some may never pay it off.

Graduated in July 2010. Have been in full time employment solidly since August 2010. Borrowed £19K and still have £12K left to pay. My salary for the last 2 years has been over £45K! Feel like I'll never ever pay this debt off, wish I'd never gone to university now.

No fees back in the 80s :) I had a full grant, didn't take out any loans as I had a good summer job and graduated with no debt.

Graduated in July so mines currently about 52k, don't think I'll ever pay it off so I'm not worrying about it at the moment!

£44k left and it increases by £160 in interest each month

Don't really want to think about how much it's going to cost to send ds to university.

21 years ago. I was one of the first years to get student loans for living costs. I borrowed about £6K in total over a 3 year degree. I took me about 5 years to pay it off, but I took a year out to do a Masters during that time and suspended payments.

Graduated in July 2002 (but didn't start paying it off until October 2003 as I did a masters) and will finally pay it off next month!! I will be so relieved to see it go.

Trufflepiggy, oh my! £160 a month in interest added. That's absolutely crazy!! I thought I had read it wrong at first and it should have said per year!

Graduated in 2007 (4 year degree) I owed £18,000 approx. I still owe £12,000 😩

People don't seem to realise that the new loans have shocking interest rates.

I'll never pay it off, but I may well pay back what I owed originally and more.

I graduated 31 years ago. No fees or student loans, full grant and no debt. We were a very lucky generation.

Graduated in 2002 (the second year that started after fees were introduced) and finished paying in 2011. Fees tripled soon after, and then tripled again recently so I have no idea how anyone is meant to repay in a reasonable timescale under the new model.

I graduated in 2011. I can't imagine I will ever fully pay it off.

Leopard12 is that a typical student loan sum for someone graduating now? What did you study?

Graduated in 2004, paid it off in the summer of that year.
DH graduated in 2007, his is increasing by £40 a month as he doesn't earn over the threshold. Not sure how much he owes exactly; I feel it hangs over us, he's not bothered!

Mister magpie - I'm in England and studied in England.

My interest is 4.6% or something like that.

I graduated 17 years ago (pre 1998 Mortgage Style Loan) and haven't paid back a penny, even after completing an MSc and working full time. Subsequently went part time after kids then made redundant. Current repayment threshold is £29,126 and it's written off after 25 years or at age 50. I doubt I'll end up repaying any of it.

£160 interest a month is insane, but it only works out at about 5% interest - it's just the amount owed is so high.

I graduated 6 years ago and I figure I've got at least another 10 years before I pay off my student loan as long as I don't go on maternity leave and I keep paying extra to pay off the interest.

At least I had £3k a year fees (plus living costs) - the new fees now are so high that two thirds of students are never going to pay them off, and they'll just be written off. It's completely absurd.

£160 a month interest! That's scandalous. This will price so many kids out of going to university which is of course what they want. More people around to do the shitty low paid work.
