Sooo, we went to a Christmas market today at a place we visit often, afterwards we went to the farm-shop for some odds and sods and told the DC they could chose a soft drink to have with supper.

The shop is set up so alcoholic drinks are on a display on one side and soft drinks are on a smaller display opposite, posh fizzy drinks, fruit juice etc. They like Fentiman's rose lemonade and wanted to get a large 500ml bottle, but as they always argue about who gets most I suggested they get one of the smaller 275ml bottles each and they could have it with a straw at supper. All good.

We sit down for supper and they start drinking their lemonade and both proclaim 'It tastes a bit weird', I looked and it was the bloody Bloom Gin and Fentimans. Thing is, I know Fentimans do a pre-mixed drink with Bloom, I've had it before, the bottle is exactly the same, other than it does say Bloom Gin on the front, buuuuuttt, the drinks were with the soft-drinks, the bottles are the same, I wasn't paying that much attention because, why would I?

I'm not even sure what my AIBU is, I'll phone them tomorrow because I can only imagine it was a mistake when they were stocking the shelves, no harm was done and I'm not about to go all Daily Mail sad-face on them.

I was just a bit perturbed, what if a recovering alcoholic had picked it up, or a Muslim, or any number of people who don't drink for whatever reason?

Also my children think they are now drunk after imbibing all of 10ml and are pissing about instead of going to bed, so I guess that's why I'm a little bit irritated!

Presumably if a Muslim had picked it up they would have read the label and put it down again??
It was clearly labelled Confused

Yanbu to be annoyed with your 'pissed' kids!
I would ring them tomorrow. Maybe they didn't read the bottle either, I wouldn't be angry with them though, no harm done.

Oh well they're open now, might as well finish the. before it all goes flat... kids can sort themselves out Wink

Give them the rest, maybe it'll help them sleep! Grin

Sorry, bad joke. Yanbu to be annoyed and I've just googled the bottles-they look exactly the same to be fair.

I'm not angry, just a bit worried that other people may have made the same mistake.

Don't know Flogging, it was with the soft-drinks, definitely with the soft-drinks.

I bought if for my children, I didn't look particularly because I've bought them the Rose lemonade before and it's in exactly the same bottle, and I generally don't buy eight year-olds booze.

And yes, I am secretly a little bit pleased because I now have two G&Ts to drink before they go flat.

Weren't you aghast at how expensive two lemonades were?!

Report
ILikeyourHairyHands · 27/11/2016 22:18

Queen, it came to £78 altogether, DH did query the total with me, but we got a few bits - so....it was probably only about 5 quid out.

I only saw the bit where you said £78 for two drinks and thought that's fucking expensive! I missed the bit where you said you'd got some odds and AIDS too!!

I've sort of done this when I bought dog food instead of cat food. I only realised when the cat refused to eat it. I couldn't understand how I'd made the mistake until I went back to Tesco and saw that that particular dog food had been out with the cat food and had the same colour packet. It did have a picture of a dog on I though 😳
I spoke to a manager who happened to be about and he offered to exchange it even though it was opened, which was nice.
So just saying really that these things happen and soft drinks should be displayed separately from alcohol to avoid this kind of mistake.

Strange autocorrect Queen! Sods for AIDS - queer.

Anyway, I'm drinking the gin now. It's nice.

Actually can't complain.

Although the drunk DCs are still arsing about.

I should probably have let them drink it.

Just tried it again and I must have typed aods which is just one letter away on the keyboard which did it. Apologies!

It does say gin in capital letters....

Was this just a ploy for you to get yourself gin Grin

Which is why I think it makes sense to group with genre rather than brand Runner.

If indeed that's what they did, I actually think it was a complete mistake made by seasonal staff.

I'm not pissed off about it.

Just slightly pissed.

Sorry but those bottles are very easily told apart, theres a big bloody label saying GIN on it!

SingaSong12 · 27/11/2016 22:31

Depending on how old they are prepare for them to be bragging to their friends about getting "drunk".

Actually can't complain.

Wait until tomorrow, when they tell everyone at school that Mummy gave them a bottle of gin eachGrin.

Believeitornot (apposite name), I didn't, as I bought gin too. I just didn't look, as we buy the rose lemonade regularly, and it was with the soft-drinks, at a casual glance it does look the same (probably).

Would you brush your teeth with a tube of Anusol because it happened to be "with the toothpastes"? Read the fecking label.

Yes I agree, Hairy. Should be kept separate.

Report

Floggingmolly I think that has happened? Unless it's an urban legend.
