Solve an argument - toast with choc spread or peanut butter doesn't need butter as well...

Or does it?

One of us says that if you're having toast and peanut butter, or toast with Nutella, you don't put butter on as well, IE under the PB or N

The other insists that you do and it tastes wrong without it...

The one who says no butter says that with butter it is useless extra fat and calories...

I don't with Nutella, I like how Nutella soaks into the toast. But am partial to peanut butter and butter. But only if it's plain butter. Not the yummy flavoured ones. They are fine on their own.

Yes it does to provide lubrication to slide down the gullet. Too dry otherwise.

Yes with peanut butter, no with nutella

Hrafnkel Wed 22-Jun-16 07:43:37

No butter. Not necessary with pate either.

StubbleTurnips Wed 22-Jun-16 07:43:40

Nutella - No.

PB - hell yes. Butter + PB = food of the gods.

I can't speak for PB as I don't like it. Nutella doesn't need butter but it is improved by it.

Obviously toast with butter and Nutella is basically a week's worth of calories and carb central but as a very occasional treat it's nice.

Not necessary with pate either.

Hmm I think it is grin

Yes to peanut butter, no to nutella, yes to pate!

murphys Wed 22-Jun-16 07:46:04

I also cant say for Nutella as I really do not like it, but if its peanut butter, yes, you have to have butter too. And the toast must be hot when its spread on so that its all melted and yummy.

Yes to butter with pate!!!

Hagothehills Wed 22-Jun-16 07:47:00

Neither pb or nutella need butter. Nutella ends up tasty and bit greasy and is a bit too rich with butter, pb is very slightly improved but enough to justify the extra calories imo

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser Wed 22-Jun-16 07:47:51

With peanut butter or Nutella butter is not necessary and would probably hinder optimal absorption of the spread into the bread. With pretty much everything else (Jam, marmite, marmalade) butter is a necessity/human right. yes DP, butter is necessary jam toast you weirdo

notamummy10 Wed 22-Jun-16 07:50:15

RoseDog Wed 22-Jun-16 07:53:20

Peanut butter - butter

EdmundSlackbladder Wed 22-Jun-16 07:54:43

Yes to both. Yes to all. Butter with everything!

Seior Wed 22-Jun-16 07:55:57

Thin layer of spread makes the peanut butter or nutella glide on more easily, meaning that you can use less. The addition of spread underneath doesn't always mean more calories. Plus both are to claggy and dry without spread.
