To think that the daily mail or the daily express constantly predicting snowamegdon is a bit ridiculous

Every few weeks one if these paper predicts something stupid like the worse winter in uk history. I know Scotland and the north of England have had snow, but it's been nothing out of the ordinary. As far as I know the scots and northern England have coped.

It had been a very wet and windy winter and certainly York and other areas has suffered badly from flooding. I don't think there has been exceptional amounts of snow yet.

YANBU. Even the Scottish press are at it. I'm not sure when "winter weather in winter" became newsworthy.

The floods were obviously newsworthy but a couple of cm of snow plus temperatures a couple of degrees below zero are most definitely not.

In the south east of England it's a bit frosty, but it's a sunny morning. No sign of Snowamegdon. It's all a bit disappointing.

YANBU. It makes me laugh how many people fall for it though.

BBC weather are predicting 'disruptive snow' for where I am over the next couple of days though but then on the app it's wall to wall sunshine along with freezing temps. I'm guessing they're hedging their bets just in case the rain moving in falls as snow.

""The floods were obviously newsworthy but a couple of cm of snow plus temperatures a couple of degrees below zero are most definitely not""

It depends on what you mean by 'News Worthy', outside of the Weather Forcast, main reports don't have to report this.

However, our local news, here in Liverpool has been giving out the Numbers of Homeless Shelters that have been specifically opened for this cold snap. They've also been asking people to report anyone they see sleeping rough, because charity workers are going out, through the night, supplying and checking people.

It doesn't matter what warnings are given, you'll still get a good few out of condition, idiots, deciding on going for their first Hike etc.

I haven't seen a copy of the Express in a while, but I remember there was a point a few years ago were their headlines only contained three topics - the weather, house prices and Madeline McCann - and they seemed to just rotate them from day-to-day. Once in a wile to break the monotony they would put in a headline about Diana, but that was the only tiny bit of variety.

Which always lead me to the same simple question: who on Earth actually buys this crap?

Don't worry - it won't be long before they are forecasting a scorching 'Barbecue Summer' and hosepipe bansGrin

I liked that daily mash article. God help us if London gets snow... The world will end!

Oh I agree birds that there has to be awareness of cold weather, especially for the vulnerable but surely this is what local weather warnings are for? The national press hyping up every weather warning unnecessarily leads to the danger of people not taking them more seriously and then lives could be at risk.

You will indeed always get numpties who insist on climbing mountains in blizzards however.

My mum reads it. She also votes tory. Even though shes working class and was until recently caring for my gran full time. Gran used to get the mail so it was a family tradition of racism. Mum has never ventured out of our small town and never been pn holiday abroad. It was a massive hoo haa when a cousin recently came out as gay. I was just Hmm Confused.

Well.. Where I am we had a dusting of snow. It's not quite snowamegdon, it's not even enough to go sledging.

We've got a lot of snow here - we're in East Sussex, and high up in the forest. And its still falling hard. I think we've already got enough for a good sledge.

We had a light dusting too...not enough to build a snowman

We have about 6 inches. Ds is really happy. Enough for a snowman.

If do laugh at the headline that's predict the end of the world type snow, though.

Apparently it sells papers, I read somewhere that sales increase by about 30% each time they have a snow headline.

Some nice pictures of Wales, Derbyshire etc in the DM though. Much more interesting than my S.West dampness I can see outside.

I'm away for the weekend in Helmsley. We drove past snow on the ground on our way here yesterday, near Sutton Bank. But nothing here nor any snow overnight.

It did snow overnight back home in Sheffield but looking at the traffic webcams seems like all the main roads are clear and not much on pavements next to them this morning.

So hoping our journey home is fine. Do need to stop at a nearby garage though as had a flat tyre when we arrived yesterday and now only have a space saver on - would prefer a proper tyre tbh if we're going to hit snow going bank over the hills.
