To start killing spiders

Just opened my door to pee and there as a mas dive golf ball sized long legged brown spider outside my door. I woke up my cat to go hunt it and she is but i wish I just threw my slipper on it.
I hate killing spiders but I'm so scared of them. He's obviously come up from the floorboards since im redoing my floor but I have to move stuff out of a cupboard tomorrow and I'm scared he will run out if my cat doesn't catch him!

YABU. Don't kill them. I am utterly petrified of wasps, still don't kill the buzzy fuckers.

I live in Australia, so winter now and having a break in the spider department but I know it will soon start again and as they can kill here, either by poison or heart attack because you can't imagine the size of them, I am saying YANBU.

Tomorrow, have your vacuum cleaner plugged in and next to you while you are moving stuff and if you see it, just suck it. Job done. Here in Australia, that's only step one, because they come out once you turn it off, so you need to spray half a bug can inside the tube (vacuum unplugged pls you don't want it to explode) and then tape the tube.

Last word on this technique, it doesn't work with the spiders larger than a plate :) !

Have you thought of burning the house down? Seems reasonable and a step I would take Grin

Oh god how do you manage living in Australia with all those nasty spiders?? Do you see lots of them?

I don't like to kill spiders but I am bloody petrified of them!

And how do you feel about dentists killing lions? I assume you're all for it?

I used to be petrified of spiders too - then I started using the vacuum to suck them up (Empty it straight away so it can't come back out). I progressed to buying one of those spider catchers that is a vacuum on the end of a long tube & now I can catch them in a glass & put them outside.

Omg I could never ever live in Australia! I would be permanently petrified.

I couldn't kill a spider though after watching Charlottes web and I can't dump bloody toys anymore after toy story 3!

Disney bastards Grin

I don't like spiders, but I don't kill them. I can't put them outside though so we avoid each other like awkward house mates until one of us gives up and moves out.

I fucking hate wasps. I would kill them, but I'm too scared so I just run flapping and screaming like a loon. Never been stung though, so I think it's a pretty sound strategy.

YABU. My nan had a saying "if you want to live and thrive, let a spider run alive" which I think is lovely. I hate spiders but have a husband willing to remove them from the house humanely.

I don't mind spiders.
At this time of year when they start laying eggs or looking for places to hibernate they tend to come into houses.

Every room in our house will contain several spiders, - in the sofas, under beds dark corners, not to mention the ones in the eaves, behind the walls.
Your home will never be spider free and never be far from your nearest spider.

They keep fly and other less desirable insect populations down.
I do nothing if I see a spider- just let it continue on it's way. Usually when I next visit that room it will have moved on.
I wouldn't dream of killing one.

I can live with spiders in any room of the house except our bedroom. The thought of one crawling into my mouth/ nose/ ears while I sleep makes my teeth itch and I can't sleep until it's been removed (but not exterminated).

I kill them (if OH is not around to do it for me!)

My preferred method is to drop a heavy book on them from a great height then jump up and down on it screaming like a crazy person

I am phobic about spiders but won't knowingly kill one (I assume they survive being put out of the bedroom window). I won't kill them because they are terrifying and I don't want their friends come looking for revenge.

I was reading up about the giant house spiders and they are males who come out of hiding to find a female. They can only run for a short distance of time before getting exhausted which is why you see them run then suddenly stop.
It's kinder sweet

A big spider had about 20 spider babies in our downstairs loo. I usually ask my husband to put spiders outside, but I am 24 weeks pregnant and felt a kinship with the spider and her spider babies so let them stay.

Now they're big spiders and they're all running around our house...

In all seriousness, how do you get rid of a False Widow? There seems to be a family of them living on the top of a ladder which is leaning outside my futility room. I definitely absolutely 100% intend to kill them (with apologies to all spider/nature lovers but these are ugly, nasty fuckers!). DH says they get violent if attacked.
