AIBU?

To think that I'm not a 'snob' for buying DD second hand next bundles off eBay!

Been to visit a friend this afternoon with DD, 22 months. DF commented on DD's outfit (which I got off eBay for £4.50) and went on to check the brand tag. "Oh we're wearing Next again are we, mummy's a bit of a snob about your clothes isn't she?"

I half think that she commented in jest but half of me thinks she's being serious. We live on a farm and DD doesn't get the opportunity to wear her best clothes too often for fear of them being covered in cow/sheep shit. I like to make sure that she looks smart when we go out and yes I do like Next clothes, they wash well and look gorgeous, but I never buy anything new I'm always in charity shops or buying bundles from friends or eBay. I'm upset by her comments, it's not the first time she's said something of the sort, she quite likes to wade in with her opinions and usurp me! I retaliated this time and told her that she would be the first to comment if she was dirty! Just needed to rant!

Confused since when did Next mean snobbish? It's a perfectly ordinary shop!

My dd is 21 months and almost always in next stuff as I buy it on ebay, charity shops and baby sales.

I also love jojo maman bebe but refuse to buy nee as the prices are extortionate so always get them on ebay!

your friend is a wally who cares where you buy it from?!

Err - she's the one who checked the label.

No you are not a snob. does she know it came from ebay? I buy lots from ebay including a dior dress but Im not snobby. Most of the time DD runs around in George clothes and mostly they are second hand or from the sales. sounds like your friend is the one obsessed by labels seeing as she has to check and make comments.

Goodness me. Send her in Boden in next time for a good reaction. How bizarre!

When people talk about high street clothes shops Next is what always comes to mind with me. Nothing wrong with Next clothes, but hardly worthy of a "oh Next, la de da" type comment.

Your friend is an idiot. Since when are Next clothes a sign of snobbery? I only buy Next clothes - they look great and wash so well compared to other brands I've tried for my baby.

Next time, go over to your friend's house with DD dressed in an outfit from Bonpoint, just to really piss her off!

I agree nothing 'snobbish' about Next haha. It's a normal high street shop that sells decent quality clothes.

She sounds incredibly dull and puerile.

It means the person making the comment is a snob.

I love next, it's such good quality, she knows I buy them from eBay etc she just has to try and prove a point. Like someone said unthread they just wash so well!!

Both my DC wear loads of next, BabyGap, JoJo, monsoon etc cos I buy it all second hand in huge bundles from eBay, charity shops, nearly new sales.
It washes well, lasts well, and looks nice and has resale value

I've had lots of similar comments and also lots of funny looks as I'm a non working single mum to 2 small kids surviving on savings and benefits so everyone thinks I shouldn't be able to afford these 'labels'.

But your friend is the snob for checking the label!!

Good grief, Next is just a bog standard high street shop (and their half price sales are wonderful when you have growing kids, though the quality is nowhere near what it used to be when the boys were small).

You need to get your DD some second hand Hooch. That would make your friend's hackles rise and possibly lead to some entertaining pearl clutching at the same time.

Next time you go round, remove the label and sew a handwritten one with 'Fuck off' on it in place.

AmyLeeha · 22/05/2015 20:50

I can't believe she had the audacity to check the label!!! My GOODNESS! And in front of you! And make a comment about it! And then call you anything at all!

If she does it again, I'd be tempted to cough "Hyacinth Bucket" at her!!

I do think people who pay full price for Next stuff are a bit daft or snobby or whatever you wanna call it.

Neither the quality or design is particularly any better than supermarket stuff from Sainsbury's, but it's all got that extra couple of quid on the price tag for not very much.

I do buy the odd thing from there tho.

What Felyne said.

Or 'FCUK off' to be snobby for her. :o

You're not a snob.
Friend sounds jealous

re next
I would consider it a "fancier" shop for baby/kids clothes (on a par with m & s and mothercare) compared to supermarkets.

love their stuff, but never pay full price, always stock up during sales!

Nothing particularly snobby about Next, it's a fairly ordinary high street shop. It's hardly a designer label.

I hate next, all that pink cute crap vs little monster stuff.

I'd think the opposite, most clothes snobs would look down on next, wouldn't they?

I don't understand how it's "snobby" to buy clothes from anywhere for your own child Confused.
How on earth is it anyone else's business how much you spend on clothes for them anyway?
I buy things I think will wash well, and that I like - I don't care what anyone else does, why would it affect me at all?

It's not snobby to choose to spend your money on what you like. Snobbiness is looking down on others for making different choices from you in my book - she's the snob, not you.

Next? Fucking Next?!
Your friend is ridiculous!

(Nothing wrong with Next but it's hardly worthy of her comments!)
