we had a rubbish day today. dd was bored. dp and i both totally stressed out. we need a day out. we are in the south east. have done the main london museums to death.

Poor you. I know this feeling well, but we have literally fuck all to do in this town, so I'm kind of jealous you have the London attraction option. Have DD the same age (plus a 9 mo), which can make it doubly difficult.

How about going to a boating lake? Winter picnic? End of a tube line adventure I.e. pick a colour get on corresponding tube and find out what's at the end of it... I've always wanted to do that.

Depends on where you are really, 'SE' covers a huge area, what transport you have and how much £ you have to throw at it.

Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green? Not one of the main London museums but worth a visit.

Ice skating! Ten pin bowling. Big walk with hot choc and other treats. Winter BBQ. £1 cinema sat and sun mornings. Join English heritage (via Tesco) or national trust (same) and have endless free days out with picnic. Most places have cafe for a cuppa afterwards. Look at 'Lets go' website for your area. So much to do that is free/cheap. I love days out.

How about a nice walk somewhere, followed by hot chocolate in a cafe then home to play games, watch a DVD, build lego, whatever but 100% focus on all doing it together! no phones, no TV, no tablets/laptops etc? Baking?

If you are broke - and who isn't in January- try Tesco clubcard rewards online for instant stuff. Or do things that are free. Circular walk with picnic. For example. We used to be in EH or NT or have annual pass to local zoo and go almost every week. Tesco was a godsend. A treasure hunt. A scavenger hunt. Start geocaching? Wrap up warm...

An ex once took me around the old city bit of London on a Sunday - that was really good - but he was a bit of an Anglophile and knew all about the buildings and history and plague and whatnot . Sure there might be some interesting walks/routes to do that your DD might like?

When I was that age, I used to love doing DIY, gardening, car maintenance, wood chopping in the woods, whatever my Dad was doing really. Just doing it as a family. Mum would make a flask & picnic if we were going out or endless 'cups of tea & a biscuit' if we were at home. I loved just 'doing stuff', grown up stuff. Every bit as much as the 'fun' stuff. I have fab memories of playing Monopoly with my Dad as well. You don't need to spend loads, just time.

You don't have to take it out anything into a geocache, just sign the log.

Tell DD it's not cheating, you can just sign to say you were there, you don't have to take other leave anything if you don't want to.
