Especially when friends and family call it "LOCKY TAIN"?

Icelollycraving · 21/12/2013 16:37

No. That's how it's pronounced. Your family are wrong.

Yama · 21/12/2013 16:37

I try not to say it out loud. In my head it is "LOCKY-TAN".

Lurleene · 21/12/2013 16:37

No, you are merely being correct. Refer them to the video on the website showing them the correct pronunciation if anyone calls you out on it.

Bluestocking · 21/12/2013 16:38

No, you're right, and your family and friends are wrong. Locky Tan indeed - how ridiculous!

Griftymoo · 21/12/2013 16:38

Well I asked someone who worked there how to pronounce it and they said Lock See Tan like you.

MardyBra · 21/12/2013 16:38

Pretentieuse, moi?

OP posts:
TeenageWaistband · 21/12/2013 16:39

The way they pronounce it reminds me of petrol/octane

not that attractive really

Lurleene · 21/12/2013 16:40

Here is the video of proof

steff13 · 21/12/2013 16:41

There is nothing pretentious about pronouncing a word correctly, IMO.

fluffyraggies · 21/12/2013 16:41

Never thought of it being pronounced any other way.
(seen it sold on QVC for years)

Scarletohello · 21/12/2013 16:41

This is a good thread. Have never known how to pronounce this ( despite an A level in French) always thought it was Locky tan so good to know the correct pronunciation!

( will prob forget really soon and go back to my bad ways..)

somersethouse · 21/12/2013 16:45

It's similar when people pronounce 'Moet' ... Moay, when it is Moet, with the 't'.

MardyBra · 21/12/2013 16:46

Ooh. Thanks for the link Lurleene - some great interpretations there.

I never watch QVC.

MardyBra · 21/12/2013 16:47

There was a massive thread about that once somerset. I blame Freddie Mercury.

KatherinaMinola · 21/12/2013 16:54

"How else would you pronounce it?" was my thought. But now I see.

It is definitely not LOCKY TAIN.

BuntyPenfold · 21/12/2013 17:00

SIL insists it is LOSS EEE TEN.
I don't know enough to argue about it.

MardyBra · 21/12/2013 17:01

The problem with the Moet thing, is

  1. Some people pronounce the T because they don't speak French
  2. Some people don't pronounce the T because they do speak French
  3. Some people know that it is a Dutch word and pronounce the T.

If you do 3, there is a danger that someone thinks you are doing 1. Xmas Grin

OP posts:
BuntyPenfold · 21/12/2013 17:02

Xmas Grin how right you are on that Mardy

ComposHat · 21/12/2013 17:04

Erm what is it?

KateSpade · 21/12/2013 17:04

I pronounce it LOSSY TAN I didn't think their was a 'K' sound in the word...

IHaveSeenMyHat · 21/12/2013 17:07

I've watched enough of it on QVC to know it's definitely LOCK SEE TAN.

moominleigh94 · 21/12/2013 17:07

I pronounced it Locky Tane today... in my defence I have never, nor will I ever, buy anything from there, so I can't see it being too much of an issue for me ;)

noddyholder · 21/12/2013 17:10

Loxitan

MardyBra · 21/12/2013 17:11

"Erm what is it?"

It's a posh French toiletries shop Compos. Their Shea butter hand cream does the trick nicely on my lizard skin.

I love your Moët description, Mardy Grin.

I gave someone a bottle Moët today, but I haven't told DH Shock.
