I had a leaflet through the door. Not only have they spelt the town name wrong, it's advertising auto repair, and they apparently do cluches.

Another one I had through The door had Random capital letters, like This.

Not to mention the company offering accomadation and the random apostrophie's everywhere! (See what I did there?)

Or the person offering there childminding service's (ofsted registerred of course!)

If you're going to the trouble and expense of having leaflets printed or signs made, why not spell and grammar check it first! Let's face it, MS Word could have picked up those errors, my iPad certainly did. I'm not one of these that insists every text, personal email or forum post is perfect in every way, but I would be put off a company who made such basic errors in professional literature.

An acquaintance of mine has just set up a shop, selling handmade personalised things for children.

She has an entire range of cards, all advertised on her facebook page and shop website, plus has a rack in her shop with 30 + cards on.

What's on them? 'YOUR 5!' 'YOUR 8! 'YOUR A TEENAGER!' etc

What astonishes me more is that some idiots people buy them.

Pedants law Crohnically means that you will also have unintentional errors of spelling or grammar when complaining about it!

Do you think language could ultimately change to accommodate the way the majority of people spell and the original meanings getting forgotten?

I am thinking of "brassic" for skint (the original meaning was from Cockney Rhyming Slang: Boracic Lint = skint). Soon nobody will know Rhyming Slang, nobody uses lint anymore etc. Brassic is, I suppose, related to green vegetables.

And there's the more commonly used phonic spelling for the breed of small dog "Chiwawa" where probably no-one has heard of the province of Mexico that is Chihuahua.

Also, Brockley - why not name a vegetable after a suburb?

I was looking at the website of a posh restaurant recently and there was a sample menu. One of the main dishes included pea's for crying out loud!

Why on earth do some people believe that normal plurals need apostrophes? The signs outside the pub up the road has things like chip's, egg's, sausage's and potato's. Grrrrr

Yanbu. But they are funny. We've been getting a menu through the door for an Indian restaurant for the past few years that have a small print at the back written:

"Some dishes may contain nits"

I always have a good little giggle at it. I've never ordered from there though, just in case it's not a typo. .

Our local gastro pub has a wall mounted container for 'menu's'.

YANBU. If a professional business has spelling mistakes in their literature, it makes me doubt their professionalism.
It looks slack, and there's no excuses not to proof read!

We were recently invited to a "renewel of there vowels" by some friends of dh
I'm a nightmare with leaflets, signs, menus etc, they drive me mad if the spelling or grammar is wrong. Dh never notices because his spelling is not particularly good either ;)

There is a shop near me that has an advertising sign which states they sell bears, wines and spirits. It always makes me smile.
