To laser my (crap) tattoo off?

Help me out people, my DS (nearly 4) has put me on a massive guilt trip & now I'm not sure what to do.

I have a quite a large, very 90s style tattoo on my arm, which I had my first laser removal treatment on last week. The plan is/was to lighten it up enough that I can have a new & much more lovely design over the top. However... When DS noticed it looking red & scabby after the treatment he asked what was wrong, so I explained. and told a little fib when I said it didn't hurt He gave me the full wobbly lip & big sad eyes treatment saying 'but I don't want you to get a new tattoo, I like THIS one!', thus instantly making me feel horribly guilty. He's repeated this several times since (including just now while going to bed), out of nowhere.

I don't want to traumatise the poor child, but I don't want to be stuck with a rubbish (and now partially removed!) tattoo either! It's my skin, right?? But I know that if he's upset by my new ink I'll feel bad whenever I look at it. What to do??

Have you decided the design of your new tattoo? Maybe you could get his input. Yes I do know how silly that sounds, asking a 4 year old's opinion on your tattoo Grin

Nah, doesn't sound silly at all! I've got a rough idea what I want because I want it to combine the elements of the original in a less crap more aesthically pleasing way. He seemed more upset about losing the 'strawberry' (it's a heart with a rose thru it - gives you some idea of the quality!) than anything. I'm sure I could work some strawberries into the design!

Can it be completely removed so you don't need to cover it? If you have a new one would it be possible that in 20 years' time you will want to remove a "crap very noughties style" tattoo?

He's four, he's used to it on mummy and it looks like it is hurting mummy so he wants it to stop! He really won't remember in 6 months. Get what you want done! Careful asking too much of his opinion unless you know an artist who is very good at bob the builder sleeves Wink Grin

Go for it. My six year old had an idea to extend my backpiece and I went out and did it. I'm really pleased with it, so's he. I'm just waiting until inspiration strikes him again Grin

To be honest, I don't think I'll mind as much if the new one looks dated in 20 years coz I'll be, bloody hell, pushing 60! Whereas the one I have now was done when I was underage very young, so makes me look older than I am iyswim? Getting it removed completely isn't really an option anyway. And it's not my only tattoo.

Hopefully he won't remember by the time I've finished getting it zapped - but I'm imagining him getting sadder & sadder as it fades away...

Ha, Bob the Builder sleeve! Think he'd prefer Postman Pat - now THERE'S something I'd regret in 20 years!

That's awesome Badgers, can I ask what his idea was?

I have a duck and a goose together, DS1 thought that the goose should be giving the duck a flower so I got a few cocoa flowers added and one put in the goose's mouth.

It sounds ridiculous Grin. It's on my profile if you want to have a laugh at it.

That is so sweet! And all the more so coz your DS contributed to the design... That settles it, I'm getting strawberries! Grin

When I was about that age I cried because my mum cut her hair. He'll forget all about it soon enough.
