Ok so this women in our office admitted that she lets her 8 year old play on his xbox using games for an 18 year old. She then said he can only play on them for a short lenght of time each day as his behaviour changes! Duhhhhh

You see, I think it is other people's business, because it's the kids that are allowed to play on these games that are the ones in the playground using all the foul language and acting out what they see on the screen. So I will judge anyone who lets there 8 year old play on games that are TEN years too old for him.

YANBU. Stupid and irresponsible parenting IMO. I agree with Valium. The bad behaviour of the kids who play aggressive games and watch inappropriate things impacts on all the other children around them.

YANBU - irresponsible and idiotic IMO. People will be along shortly though to say that their 6 day old has been playing COD since conception and isn't affected at all. Hmm

And when he does kick off at school she'll say "oh but if I take the game away he throws a tantrum" as though that makes it all ok :(

YANBU at all

My dp was allowed to play these sorts of games growing up, and I constantly have to remind him not to swear in front of our dd (3yo) and they aren't allowed to be played in front of her either.

Some people just have no common sense Angry

YANBU - that's crap parenting right there. (Also wearing my judgy pants today). Sod it, you can keep saying "well, different people parent in different ways" but really, some people just make bad choices. This isn't in the same league as letting them play with real guns or watch porn, but really, it's a bad way to parent and other people have to deal with the consequences.

I would suggest pointing out they are 18 for a reason.

I suppose it depends what the game is. I have let mine play 15 games and they are innocuous imo and neither of the boys have been in trouble at school, ever, infact they are always complemented on their behaviour
