to think that most on here have tried class B or A drugs at some point in their lives?

I'm increasingly struggling with the wisdom of prohibiting drugs and this is increased by a suspicion that far more people have taken or take drugs than are ever willing to admit it. I am thus curious as to MNetters experiences.

GrownUp2012 Sat 11-Feb-12 00:00:35

Most, but not me. Unless temazepam is included there? I had to sign for it.

No, never and never will. I dont smoke either.

ScarfOfSexualPreference Sat 11-Feb-12 00:03:03

Never tried, never tried smoking either

I think that most people find it easier to come off them because they are prohibited.

I don't think that this is a subject in which you can go with the majority on.

Devora Sat 11-Feb-12 00:03:40

I would expect most have, yes.

IndigoBell Sat 11-Feb-12 00:05:07

No, I never have and never would.

I'm not sure if they should be illegal or not. That is a very complicate question with very good arguments for both sides.

But how many people do take drugs is irrelevant to the question of whether or not they should be illegal IMO.

DressDownFriday Sat 11-Feb-12 00:05:09

No. Obviously a boring bunch on here tonight.

BIWI Sat 11-Feb-12 00:05:14

I will happily admit to experimenting - although a miniscule amount. And never Class A stuff.

But that doesn't mean we should move to wholesale relaxation of the laws about drugs.

Why would you think that?

rhondajean Sat 11-Feb-12 00:05:14

I think temazapam is class c.

GrownUp2012 Sat 11-Feb-12 00:06:50

Oh well, it was prescribed anyway, so there was none of that illicit fun vibe going on. Just sleep.

Helltotheno Sat 11-Feb-12 00:07:05

My experimental phase did not include drugs no, apart from the odd spliff which didn't do much for me either.

Always had this idea that I'd try smack when I'm old just to see what the big deal is...

Selks Sat 11-Feb-12 00:07:11

Have tried in my past (not the heavy stuff).

WorraLiberty Sat 11-Feb-12 00:08:01

Yep, as a teenager I tried...

'Pot' or 'black/solid' as it was known then

Speed

Acid

I'm not totally against smoking dope except that skunk is way stronger than anything in the past...and there's no roadside breath test to catch doped up drivers on the spot.

If I had to choose a stoned person over a drunk person, I'd choose stoned every single time.

Admittedly though, the sheer strength of skunk nowadays does leave me to wonder if it has any long term effects.

Then again, in moderation (just like alcohol) I doubt it.

bejeezus Sat 11-Feb-12 00:08:21

marijuana, LSD, speed, E, opium, cocaine

(not in order of preference grin)

MessNessPess Sat 11-Feb-12 00:08:24

Just the prescribed Diaz and Tramadol which is now a street drug that is smoked confused have never smoked, can't get drunk so am pretty boring.

Selks Sat 11-Feb-12 00:08:46

Bit of cannabis a few times in my youth I should add. Was trying to look cool. Horrid stuff, I soon came to realise!

AgentZigzag Sat 11-Feb-12 00:08:47

I've tried a bit of this and that in my yoof, and had a bloody good time of it.

The problem with making drugs wholesale legal though, is that it'd change the consciousness of society, because let's face it, life's shit and those who wouldn't try to take the edge off it are in the minority.

Could you trust the taxi drivers, nurses etc to be totally straight when they're dealing with you if drugs were more widespread than they are now?

If there was a way to tax it and not make a country full of unproductive layabouts deep in the depths of depression (because that's the price you pay for overusing the stuff) then surely a government would have thought of it by now?

Most people don't have enough willpower to keep it to 'a little bit now and then'.

ChishAndFips Sat 11-Feb-12 00:09:14

No, never. I think it is a common misconception that 'everybody tries them' - I was offered a few times, as were friends, but I never saw the need to take them. Obviously only my experience though, I will be interested to how many say they have.

I do not think legalising Class A and B drugs is a good idea at all, that is a massive leap from lots of people having tried them!

McHappyPants2012 Sat 11-Feb-12 00:10:12

I have in my younger years. I am not proud of the fact when I used to go clubbing I would pop some pills, did some speed and smoked cannabis.

When in the news a few weeks ago about legalising cannabis I strongly objected to it, because if it was easier to get hold of no way would I have been able to get off it.

I moved 50 miles away to get away from that life

bejeezus Sat 11-Feb-12 00:10:46

yes...I wonder the same OP to take the criminal element out of the equation

DodieSmith Sat 11-Feb-12 00:12:44

I'm surprised at all the nos. Or no's. Whichever.

DodieSmith Sat 11-Feb-12 00:13:14

I'm on drugs right now.

Nanny0gg Sat 11-Feb-12 00:13:18

Nope - and I've never understood the argument that as 'everyone' does it then it's okay so legalise it.

outofbodyexperience Sat 11-Feb-12 00:13:26

Nope, not me either. Nor smoking. Not so much as a drag, ever. Didn't see the point. Loser's game.

Sorry to disappoint, but I think 'everyone' might be a bit of wishful thinking on the part of someone who wants to downplay their own choices. grin
