after 6 yrs of being a sahm, i got a little job. just working 1 shift a week, but im happy with it, so is oh. fits in with kids etc. i got my first pay check today. oh came in from work and i showed him and he was really chuffed for me. its been a great confidence boost for me, and has started to give me back a bit of me. while we were chatting about how i would spend my riches( yeah right) a knock at the door, one of the kids let in ohs mate. he says, why are you 2 looking so chuffed. oh said to him clueless just got her first pay check, were thinking of what we can treat ourselves to. so the mate says oh what job did you get? i tell him and he says.
thats not a real job, i wouldnt work for what you must be earning, whats the point? you might aswell keep on staying home doing nothing.
i was fuming. oh was fuming. oh tells him to leave and that he wont be going down the pub with him now as previously planned. as he was acting like a twat.
now im super pissed off and oh has backed me totally and pissed of the
wanker mate.
is it so wrong to be happy with myself? its only a tiny bit of money, but its something. and i feel good about it.

YANBU at all. Congratulations on the job, but I am Shock at how rude the 'friend' was, I really cannot imagine saying that to someone. Good to hear that your OH backed you up though.

the 'friend' is one of those who thinks anyone who doesnt work 40hrs a week is a drain on society. regardless of why. he thinks that me being a sahm pulls my husband down.

I second those who say your husband sounds lovely, sticking up for you and rightly too

What a lovely post, it makes such a refreshing change to hear about couples being supportive and taking real pleasure from each other's happiness.

Good on DH for telling twatty what's what.

What job do you have Op?

Congratulations on the job. Be proud, enjoy your wages you deserve them. And it makes me happy to know that your OH stuck by you and told his "mate" where to go. You should be proud of him too. :)
