AIBU?

To not say anything?

a few weeks ago dp paid a £100 deposit towards an ipad2. the store rang us today to inform us our iPad was now in stock so dp went in after work to pay and collect it. All was well until I've just checked our bank account online and seems they have mistakenly charged us £100 instead of £299!

Dp did not even notice when paying and is now a bit shocked! We have an invoice confirming that we have paid for the iPad in full, however the reciept shows that they have only debited £100!

So now we have a dilemma, I think we should return to the store and tell them. However dp thinks we should keep quiet! Who IBU? And WWYD?

I wouldn't tell them personally. You aren't at fault.

I would tell them about their mistake. What goes around, comes around.

And...you will feel much better too.

ack, their mistake - they wouldn't be chasing you if it were the other way around.

wait until they find out, if they don't don't sweat it

I am also with your Dp on this one, you have a receipt stating you have paid in full. Oh and an iPad 2 is not £299. I think that is just the first iPad.

I'm with your dp on this too. Say nothing and enjoy.

If they notice just don't let on that you knew!

If he went in today to check it would not be on your statement yet, the £100 would be the deposit.

It takes 24 hours for the debit to show on a bank statement online not minutes.

You have gained a monetary advantage due to someone not doing their job correctly, if you brought this to the attention of managment they might get into trouble. Loads and loads of trouble they might even get the sack!

Therefore say nowt you are not being naughty you are being nice!

I'd tell them.

I know I am quick enough to point out an error in a shop's favour, so it's only right that I do it the other way round too.

I actually, seriously, don't see any difference between keeping something you know isn't yours, benefitting financially from something you know is a mistake, and stealing.

It's all the same thing imo.

I, erm, I am in two minds whether to post this next bit, lest you all think I'm a nutcase. oh well, never mind. you don't know me Grin

I think that if you do the right thing, good things come your way. Like, erm, you alert someone to an error like that and something good will happen to you. You are skint but you give someone your last fiver and you'll find a forgotten tenner in an old coat pocket. That sort of thing. Plus you just feel good about yourself.

Hecate I'm so bored with agreeing you ALL the time!

Hecate is right, do what she says. I came to say what she said, only she said it better. So I'll shut up now.

I think the OP has made a mistake, the first £100 would show on her statement, but the second payment made today would not show yet.

It is not possible for it to show yet banks do not work that fast.

Some of my friends use the c(unt) word in a friendly way. "hello cunt" that sort of thing Hmm I think it's funny but when we're in public it suddenly becomes "hello James (Hunt)" like a bad cockney rhyming thing. So I cant take the C word as an insult!!! To me it's a term of endearment Blush

I agree with Hecate too but I also think that Fabbychic might be right about it not showing on your account yet so wait until monday and see if it's show up they then before going back. Smile

I agree. I would feel guilty that someone would get into trouble.

The bank cashier gave me £8 too much the other day, I was so hungover tired, I hadn't noticed and just put the money straight into my purse and went home. She rang later to explain so I popped it back the next day.

I'm clasping my lottery ticket very closely now :)
