Easter eggs and babies....

genuinely interested in your views on this

my DM and DGPs have bought eater eggs for DS (8 months)

Now would i be a bad mummy if i let DS have a bit of these now and again, or would a bad mummy eat them herself?

I will of course accept them, but havent quite decided yet...

Mumsnet jury - what do you think?

If it helps they are those small milky bar ones.....

Oh, DD was only 9 weeks old last Easter and got 3 Eggs We scoffed the lot.
At 8 months, I wouldn't mind giving a few tiny bits of white chocolate as a treat...but I'd be eating most of it (egg-givers don't need to know this though).

I would share a tiny bit and eat most myself!

I started off saving DDs chocolate, but it just got silly with a huge ever growing pile.

My DD is 10 months and we will ahev the same situation. I believe it's my job as her mother to protect her from empty calories and sugary evil by eating her chocolate treats myself. This noble action will also protect DH from possible death by chocolate.

(Would her granny be suspicious if I said she fancies a Toblerone egg?)

Eat them yourself.

They are wasted on a baby anyway.

Babies don't really. At 8mo it's up to you if you want to give dc a bit. I started out giving ds teeny tiny bits but now he's 2yo he's got a fair idea if mummy isn't sharing! Enjoy it while it lasts! :)

Ds is 17 months and I know I will have to force myself to eat most of his eggs!

I'd got an idea it'd go this way. So i will let DS smell it taste a little bit (he's had the odd bit anyway) and scoff the rest. I may tell anyone else who wants to buy him one that he will only eat green and blacks ones though!

oooh my lovely gran has just called to say that she has got DS an easter egg (i know this as i was with my mum when she bought it this morning for her as she cant get out) and she's just said she is going to get me a bottle of wine because she knows i'm a lush partial to the odd small glass!

At 8 months I'd let him have a little bit every now and then but I'd eat the rest myself... I'd see it as my duty as his mother and anyone giving Easter Eggs to a baby should expect that (if they've any sense - if they haven't... who cares what they think! ).

Your baby needs to understand the concept of sharing NOW.

(you don't have to show him the eggs or tell him that he is actually sharing but as long as you get your 'share' your job is done)

I have an obsession to eat their choclit at the moment.

DD is 15 months and will be getting a button from her easter egg. The rest I will eat for her own good.

Well, if you are still breastfeeding then you should eat them, that way you both get the benefit.

In fact, may insist on getting an egg for 11 week old ds.

YouaretooniceNOT - i think i saw them in morrisons

athough, i would prefer a bar than an egg, always did as a kid. of course in those days a bar of chocolate worked out cheaper gram for gram. nowadays easter eggs seem to be quite cheap!

My DDs don't get Easter eggs.

I feel quite hard done by actually, with no opportunity for stealing sharing them.

I second the breastfeeding comment. Same is also true if you're pregnant. It's essential that you eat it so they get it all.
