sunday morning?

Every sunday we are woken by gardeners/diy'ers/kids in gardens any time from 8am.

It drives me crazy! I don't know if its because as a kid i was never allowed out until 10am on a sunday and this has stayed with me.

I have kids aged 6 & 9 and it grates that for a treat on a sat i may let them stay up late thinking they can have a lie in only for them to be woken at 8 grrrrr!

My hubby is a shift worker and often gets in in the early hours - i dont expect peace all day just 8am really?

Ok rant over..{finally breathes out and wonders if actually im just turning into my mother!}

yes Welli, I agree, we should all make an effort to be quiet(er) on Sundays, and wait until at least 10am to start noisy jobs.
And wonder why it would be too much to expect.
(children playing are a bit of a liability, though)

8am on a Sunday isn't unreasonable. 7am might be though.

I am up and about then most times but I still think its thoughtless, esp if been up for whatever reason through the night etc

Also sunday is the only time we dont have to rush in the morning.

Is 8 am really necessary, sorry but getting annoyed just thinking about it!

thank you was thinking i was a grumpy old woman!! Stewi if my kids are up late its cos they are watching a movie not making a racket and I dont let them out early on a sat or school hols as both my neighbours are shift works so I try to think of them but I do realise its one of those things where prob all have our own opinions

Ah, well I am a grumpy old woman... I got a bit of light toasting (not quite a flaming) on here once for complaining about my neighbour's children being really noisy outside. Apparently, I should have been glad they were outside playing and not indoors on computer games Grin

I won't let DS out in the garden on a Sunday until after 10am..its hard if he's been up since 6am but I like to consider the neighbours.

Obviously earlier on a weekday if he's at home because I know my neighbours work and not at home

Basic politeness imo

And shift work and being up early is just one of those things as well. It does not preclude courtesy.

Oh I agree... I can't wait until my DD is old enough to play outside on her own. She'll be out there in all weathers Grin

I had to work today as I dont have the luxury of having weekends off, and so the only time I got to spend with my children was this morning. So we played in the garden and had breakfast out there as it was such a nice morning...

However my day off was Thursday and AIBU to think that my neighbours should not be making noise and not working on their gardens before 10 o clock?

My neighbour often wakes me up, calling and whistling for her cat at......

5:45!!!! even on a Sunday

bumpsnow in my grumpy old lady book, I'd be happy with that Grin

bumpsnowjustplump · 12/09/2010 22:21

phew... thanks belle Grin

I would never do DIY or leave the kids unsupervised out there at that time though that is just rude... I think there are laws about what time you can do DIY and such at weekends, my dad checked it out when he built his dark room in the garden..

YABU. I am Mrs grumpygills of grumpshire, but, DD can go out into the garden any time after 8 even on a Sunday. Maybe I am just a lackadaisical mum though.

YANBU. This would seriously piss me off and it is far too early IMHO, no matter what time people get up, and my DS is up at 6.

Maybe they get woken up by your dh coming in late due to his shiftwork
or as one poster says maybe Sunday is the only day they get to do anything
it's hideous working weekends
my dh has to leave the house at 6.45 on a Sunday morning - people probably complain about his car engine noise , they'd soon moan though if they rang 999 and there was nobody there....

sundays are no longer sacred like when we (some of us) were small.

we never had shops open on sundays back then....but now, sundays are more or less the same as saturdays

Your kids must be really light sleepers.

Mine can sleep through neighbours' drug-fuelled rave parties, construction, kids screeching around next door (walls are paper thin), TV, arguments, etc.

DH is shift worker and he sleeps like the dead.

I use ear plugs.

YABU.

Some people only have the Sunday off and have stuff to do and 8AM isn't exactly dead early.
