aibu in feeling slightly insulted

if it was me i would arrive early and eagerly await loved one.

His attitude of wanting it to be as painless as possible smacks of being put out at having to do it in the first place and hence uncaring/can't be arsed .

We haven't had major fall out about this btw- he thinks I am mad grin

perhaps i am

Brollyflower Wed 01-Sep-10 18:54:05

YABU and slightly odd, sorry.

SandStorm Wed 01-Sep-10 18:54:35

I don't blame him. Who wants to hang around airports/stations longer than needed?

LetThereBeRock Wed 01-Sep-10 18:55:00

YABU.

brimfull Wed 01-Sep-10 18:55:22

lol
I want him there eagerly awaiting me .

I have told him next time he needs picking up I'll be an hour late wink

YABU. The joy is in seeing the awaited loved one, not in waiting around.

He can go on the airport website and see if your plane is on time and drive there according to that. I don't think you should read too much in to it....airports are crap places (especially when you are not flying).

LIZS Wed 01-Sep-10 18:56:06

yabu, as long as he is there when he needs to be why should it matter how long he lingers, or not.

Airport parking is a nightmare and so expensive ..... I would also try to minimise my stay ...

brimfull Wed 01-Sep-10 18:56:45

I love the anticipation of waiting for someone at airport

tis just me then

Parking at airport or station can be a nightmare. I always time pickups so I don't have to park. Maybe I'm horrible too.

It doesn't mean he isn't excited to see you, in fact I often find meeting outside away from the crowds is nicer as it's just us.

brimfull Wed 01-Sep-10 18:57:39

btw local airport /station so parking cheap

LadyBiscuit Wed 01-Sep-10 18:57:45

Do you think he loves you less because he doesn't want to spend £15 parking and stand around for an hour? confused

What airport may I ask??

curlymama Wed 01-Sep-10 18:58:42

I'd be a little bit hurt at this too, but looking at the price of airport parking, I can't say I blame him. I think it's probably just one of those things where the man thinks 'I'm picking her up, what more does she want?' And the woman is thinking about how much more special it would make her feel if he was there in the arrivals area waiting to carry your suitcase before chauffeuring you home.

Don't take it personally!

Hassled Wed 01-Sep-10 18:58:53

He needs to a) make a banner, or if that is too arty crafty for him, then a placard, b) write "welcome ggirl. I blardy love you" on it in a whopping font, c) get out of the car and stand in an appropriate spot with the banner/placard. Flowers and helium balloons an optional extra.

ladybiscuit-of course -yes lol

bournemouth airport

MisSalLaneous Wed 01-Sep-10 18:59:59

It's definitely just you and one or two other nutcases - airports are loud, horribly expensive and parking costs a fortune! I'm sure he's eagerly awaiting your return, just not at the actual airport.

tilbatilba Wed 01-Sep-10 19:00:11

Would never think of parking, always just drive by. I'm with your dh on this one!

Airports are still dull places of standing around, but at least it isn't a London airport ...

How long was your trip??

brimfull Wed 01-Sep-10 19:02:55

dh is pissing himself laughing at this now
have just read thread out to him

i hate you all

MisSalLaneous Wed 01-Sep-10 19:04:42

Ok, in your defence, maybe bournemouth airport isn't all bad. We normally do Heathrow, which I hate with a passion and wouldn't prefer to spend too much time there if I had the choice!

MisSalLaneous Wed 01-Sep-10 19:06:44

Hey, ggirl's husband, you do realise that flowers are compulsory though, even (especially wink ) if you don't meet ggirl at the airport though, don't you? grin

brimfull Wed 01-Sep-10 19:08:29

I haven't required picking up.

The topic came up as dd needs picking up from airport tomorrow and he said -can she text me when she is landing and I'll leave then.
Perfectly reasonable I know but still irked me.

We are lolling about it now

The easiest way to do it (for the "picker upper") is to go to departures, as it is easier to park for a bit in the departure set off area. No parking and no payment necessary. So, he goes to the same place as he would drop you off to the airport, and pick you up from there.
