Watching Celebrity Strictly last night, it was obviously set up for Tayce to win. Why? A group of celebrities of varying degrees of charm and bumble- then they are all soundly beaten by a clearly skilled dancer who's a drag queen.
There have been drag queens on Sewing Bee and Masterchef and House of Games. And loads of other shows I can't remember.
What's the appeal? And why no drag kings? Strictly has been great at featuring same sex couples- why not do more of that?

I would love it if we could discuss this in a way that doesn't get the thread deleted, so please post with care.

Oh here we go again what’s the problem with drag queens? I don’t see a problem with it and yes there are drag Kings. I don’t think it’s over and above everything else. I haven’t watched a particular program you’re talking about but what’s the problem? Anyway why is it some people have a really issue with them.
I would summarise there are more drag queens then there are drag kings. I don’t have a problem with it. I don’t think it affects my womanhood in any shape at all and I’m just trying to understand the sort of people that get het up over it because we’ve had drag queens in our society for a long time we are not fucking America where people get really upset over this shit we had Lily Savage for a long time

dementedpixie · 26/12/2024 08:55

The BBC are obsessed with drag and i see no appeal in it at all. Glad I didn't watch it tbh

I think outside of the TV world they are very funny. They do do some really good humour and I’ve seen some good acts but on the TV because of RuPaul it’s more about how they look and dance but that’s okay that’s part of the act as well.

BellissimoGecko · 26/12/2024 09:00

Drag is regressive, sexist and misogynistic - just look at some of the names of drag 'artists', such as Cheryl Hole.

Fuck knows why the BBC is platforming drag so much, but it's fucking tedious.

FruityCider · 26/12/2024 09:01

I enjoy drag because I think it's funny / the outfits/lewks are often impressive. Also drag kings/ bio queens etc are out there, it's just a numbers game.

Exactly I find there is far too much of a militant viewpoint going on in society. It’s started with this. It will go onto all there’s too many gay people next and then God knows where we’re gonna be. We’re gonna end up like fucking America soon because the snowflakes the real snowflakes are the sort of people who can’t stand difference.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 26/12/2024 09:05

crikey, someone here REALLY loves drag

I'm afraid I cannot explain the appeal because it's something I actively swerve, in the way I swerve, say, the comedy of Jim Davidson

I'm a LAYDEE. It's funny because I'm being crass and LAYDEES are funny

yeah, no

CocoapuffPuff · 26/12/2024 09:06

Why so aggressive @Workingclasslass?

The OP asked people's opinions. They're giving them. They're allowed to have opinions that don't match yours.

No, I don’t really love it. I just cannot stand the hate towards it because it’s just from a very bigoted viewpoint. If you don’t like it and find it funny that’s fair enough. I wouldn’t attack you for that but other people saying it’s an attack on women, it’s not true.

Because I’ve been on this forum a long time and there’s a lot of anti-drag on this under the disguise of feminism which is bullshit anyway because it’s not even attacking women it’s a form of like entertainment they don’t do it as a real thing to attack women at all yet people seem to clutch their pearls and be all upset over it and it’s a piss take

the joke is that it's men dressing up as women and this is in some way intrinsically hilarious, no?

@Workingclasslass "I’m just trying to understand the sort of people that get het up over it because we’ve had drag queens in our society for a long time"

I would be happy to explain why I am uncomfortable with it- but I'm not sure you're in a mood to listen, frankly. You appear to have joined the conversation at Defcon10!

Because it will be oh well they’re attacking women or possibly as it’s just last person has just said trying to make a link with a child abuser and drag which is absolutely disgusting so please do try to educate me. I’ve heard it all before.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 26/12/2024 09:09

oooohkay

I'm not sure much of a constructive discussion is going to be had here

PeachyKeane · 26/12/2024 09:10

It's utterly shit, misogynistic and talentless.

I switch off if one comes on as I find it utterly offensive as a woman to have a man parodying our sex.

I have always felt like this, it is nothing new, it is my lived experience. It is my truth. Not sure why I'm suddenly not allowed to feel like this.

Droppit · 26/12/2024 09:10

I think people like the spectacle of it - how a man can look so completely different with makeup and clothing. But also the act - people like the performance of it all. It's not for everyone.

That's the whole point, a fucked-up parody of women.

Absolutely fine, but I’m not a fucking snowflake. I find with the people on your side you are you don’t like it. You don’t like people to tell you the other women don’t agree with you but apparently when we do that all I get told is I’m a man when I’m not because that’s all you guys know what to say.
