Empty shelves - how bad is it around you?

I'm currently visiting London, from the South coast.

Sainsbury's was a shocker

Whole fridges empty, with their shutters down.

Most other shelves a third full at best

Last time I went to the shops was about a week ago, on the south coast, and it wasn't that bad then, although I can't say about now. Some groceries missing, nothing like this

M&S foodhall here in South Wales is fully stocked as usual.

Aurea · 15/09/2021 19:06

I live in north east Scotland and had a Sainsburys shop delivered today. All present with no substitutions. Smile

insertsomethingwitty · 15/09/2021 19:06

I went into a big-ish Co-Op today and there was not one loaf of bread of any kind. Whole section totally empty.

Bookaholic73 · 15/09/2021 19:07

All the supermarkets local to me (Cornwall) have had empty shelves for weeks.

SunIsBehindGreySky · 15/09/2021 19:07

You can go in one day and it's not too bad and a few days later and there isn't much there. Dven moving bulking items around to fill shelves keavss it pretty empty.

TheNatureOfTheCatastrophe · 15/09/2021 19:07

I'm in South London and there are noticeable gaps in the supermarket but not entire shuttered fridges. I haven't had trouble getting everything I need.

Runningforcakes · 15/09/2021 19:08

Very bad in our coop! Whole fridges of fresh stuff completely empty-literally no cheese, meat, yogurts, ready meals etc.
The dessert fridge had one lonely pack of chocolate eclairs in the whole thing!

SpringRainbow · 15/09/2021 19:09

Not really noticed anymore empty shelves than usual. Staff seems to be restocking as often and as much as usual.

RoobyMyrtle · 15/09/2021 19:10

I usually get food delivered and haven't had too many problems, some subs but acceptable. My local co-op supermarket has had no veg at all for a few days though.

FlyingFlamingo · 15/09/2021 19:10

It depends on the shop here. Tesco deliver most of my shopping, there are a few items unavailable each week but they are easily substituted for something similar. I popped into M&S last week and the bakery section was half empty, and I couldn’t get any variety of Diet Coke in the co op either.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 15/09/2021 19:13

Only some categories seem to be affected in our Sainsbury's in Fulham. The pasta ready meals are very empty right now. Last week the tissues were.

KeyboardWorriers · 15/09/2021 19:14

Totally fine. Our big supermarket order (big family!) Arrived with nothing missing and similarly when I went to the supermarket near work to pick something up I couldn't see any empty shelves

JacMacO · 15/09/2021 19:15

Frozen raspberries seem to have disappeared. Been trying to get hold of some for weeks.

Wizzbangfizz · 15/09/2021 19:17

I couldn't get a Sainsbury's ready meal I like the other day but apart from that normal levels of stock.

alexdgr8 · 15/09/2021 19:17

pretty bad in north london. different shops. last few months.

EcoCustard · 15/09/2021 19:17

East Midlands and many noticeable gaps over the summer. Has improved a little but still some gaps and plenty filled with empty boxes or pallets of something that there is an over supply of. Bread, soft drinks, milk and some tinned/dried good missing for a while. Local fields are full of veg and flowers that have gone to seed or been ploughed in as staff shortages have so unable to harvest them.

juneybean · 15/09/2021 19:19

I do click and collect and since about july substitutions were horrendous but last week there was only 2! So not so bad near me in tyne and wear.

ISpyCobraKai · 15/09/2021 19:20

I'm near Glasgow and mainly shop online and honestly haven't had any problems getting what I've ordered

User4378645 · 15/09/2021 19:23

Our Waitrose is fairly empty but because they are doing a lot of building work to make our lovely new Waitrose and JL it's a bit hard to tell if it's that or shortages. I usually get most of my Tesco delivery, same as always

Thebookswereherfriends · 15/09/2021 19:23

I went in Lidl this week, don’t go that often, and was very surprised by how bare it was. A lot of shelves had only a few things on them. My local Tesco is ok, few bare patches, but most things are in.

Herja · 15/09/2021 19:26

There are no crisps, it's been an issue for weeks. I can live without crisps, DS is a bit pissed off though! No other shortages (SW major city).

niceupthedanceagain · 15/09/2021 19:29

There's been no pita bread round here for weeks, now orange juice and oven chips gone. M&S seems to have its shit together more than the others

edgeware · 15/09/2021 19:29

I haven’t noticed anything anywhere North West - except no Gouda in Morissons.

TooBigForMyBoots · 15/09/2021 19:29

It's pretty bad here in NI.Sad

smallandimperfectlyformed · 15/09/2021 19:30

I'm in South East London and there isn't really a big problem with stock in the main, with the exception of bottled water and lunchbox drinks like Fruit Shoots etc (this is Lidl and Sainsbury's in the main, also Co-Op occasionally). Definitely no problem with bread or milk, fruit and veg.
