Easy Christmas decoration ideas for a 3 yr old and artistically challenged mum?

Our local pound shop has loads of craft stuff and I thought it'd be fun to make some tree and other decorations with her. We've done cards and lolly pop stars. Any ideas?

If you have a stapler/glue, you could make paper chains. Or snowmen if you've any paper plates.

I used to cut a snowman shape out of card and then a load of circles out of white paper. You stick the circles on the card until it's covered (sort of overlapping them) and then draw on the face, scarf, buttons etc. I think my mum still has the one I did when I was about 10.

I saw a lovely idea in a magazine where you cut star shapes out of ivy and string them together

Buy super cheap baubles and then decorate them with glitter or fake snow or whatever you have handy.

Salt dough stars decorated with paint, glitter and PVA look lovely. We still dig ours out and DD is 17 now!

The little ones usually reception make a decoration for the Christmas fair...they are usually three lollipop sticks painted green glued in a triangle with a pompom nose ate the bottom and googly eyes at the top... and sold as reindeer

I draw a big Christmas tree on a piece of paper and let DS loose with the sticking box (an old tub filled with bits of crepe paper, sequins, mini pompoms, little pictures cut from old magazines, just whatever is on the loose) and a glue stick to decorate the 'tree'. To be fair this is more of a time filler than a craft decoration though :-)

Cornflour and bicarbonate dough for stars and shapes. This is much nicer than salt dough as they are really white and sparkle. I made last year with my then 3 year old. We used her letter stamps and pattern stamps to decorate them but you can stick stuff too.

This year we got the packs from £land. The ones with black silhouettes and crepe paper are good. 3yos are better than 5yos as 5yo won't accept help! Last year we got some wooden shapes from The Range to paint and customise.

Right.. this is my jam.

Snowflakes, big and small any size and shape just gold over paper a few times a snip shapes out on the fold, stick them and they are to windows and walls and hang them in groups from the ceiling.

Felt pieces cut into shapes of stockings or trees/bells/stars and stuffed with tissue paper/old cloth scraps and sewn and then hung into the tree.

Lollipop stars/trees/reindeers.

Hand and foot prints made into robins (feet) and reindeer (hands) cut out and stuck on the wall.

Shapes cut out of paper in Christmassy designs and then tissue stuck behind to make 'stained glass windows' to stick in your window.

Origami star boxes to fill with cheap sweeties or Christmas pot puri or something else (google Christmas origami for patterns)

Wrapping paper to make huge, long paper chains or littler ones hanging down.

Pop some corn and thread it onto cotton to make garlands for the tree.

If you have wool you can make pom-poms to glue or tie onto a cardboard wreath (thick card or lots of thin card stuck together to make it stiff)

Can you tell I've spent many a Christmas with children when we've been skint and trying to make the magic happen

Collect pine cones on a winter walk, at home dab with glue and sprinkle with glitter, hang up or pile into a basket.
Same can be done with ivy, glue and glitter and pop into a jug or around the base of a candle.
Make a mobile with paper stars, snowflakes, angels....

love51 you glue a triangle of 3 sticks together and then do the same with three more so you've got two triangles. Then put on on top of the other to make a star and use glitter glue to decorate. Really bad explanation, I'll post a pic tomorrow. They're dead easy.

We collected pine cones last week, let them dry for a few days in a warm place then rolled them in glitter and tied them to the tree with matching ribbon.

I'm not arty so this was super easy
