Present ideas for 'quirky' 6 year old

Ds is 6. Whereas most of his friends are into superheroes or football, he loves things like big foot, the Loch Ness monster, reading books about crop circles etc.

Does anyone have any ideas for gifts we can get him to go with these interests? I see fisher price released a radio controlled big foot a few years ago but it's a bit babyish for him! Age appropriate books etc would be fab!

Metal detector
Walkie Talkies
Den Kit
Compass and Binoculars
Books: Guinness Book of Records or a book of optical illusions, would he enjoy books like The Famous Five?
He might enjoy some sort of magnetic toys/kit
Melissa and Doug magic set

My quirky 5 year old is getting a metal detector from his grandparents, so second that motion.

He loves Lego so is getting a bit of that.

He is also obsessed with stationery, spy pens, diaries and the like.

He has expressed interest in the Guinness Book of Records book.

Bug finding kit/small fossils/binoculars

He also has a thing for Loch Ness etc and loves movies like The Water Horse.

He likes David Attenborough programmes and accordingly one year we bought him a cuddly giant squid which he loved as well as a DVD - maybe something similar for Nessie?

I've just watched the trailer for the waterhorse- it looks right up his street! We may watch it this weekend for a movie night!

He loves bugs, previous Christmas presents have included an ant farm! He has countless bug encyclopaedias and is really interested in dinosaurs too.

We have already bought him the Ripleys believe it or not book, I will look into the Guinness world records one.

Brilliant ideas everyone thanks so much!

My six year old daughter has similar interests, and also loves Steve Irwin, Steve Backshall and searching for and reading about the Aurora Borealis. She will love finding the following in her stocking this year:

Bug bingo looks fabulous! I'll definitely get that and I've already ordered the Bigfoot rescue kit. I'm so excited to see him open it!

Deadly 60 is a big hit here too, he has all the books and dvds! I would recommend the deadly 60 top trumps, he loves playing that!

I have a huge wish list of things to get him now! Grin
