Book for a 12yo boy please.

So my dd who is 14 had just read Ben Stokes's autobiography, before that she read Joe Root's, Stuart Broad's and all,of them actually!

RIck Riordan Percy Jackson books are awesome too. Or Holes by Louis Sachar, that's really good.

Ds(12) loved the Percy Jackson books and you can get the two films on DVD cheaply if he hasn't seen them before to watch after reading the books.

He's not really found more books he likes since finishing Percy Jackson so watching this thread too!

DS2 is 12 and has asked for The Book Thief. DS1 is 14 and has asked for Go Set a Watchman. DD is 10 and has asked for Cogheart.

Common Sense Media have them rated by kids and parents as age 9 which is around the age ds(12) started reading bigger books, starting with Harry Potter series (he was a very reluctant reader before).

If you ds is an avid and proficient reader and has read other chapter books like Harry Potter he might be okay, I haven't read them but CSM mentions -

Parents need to know that the premise of the story is that Greek gods have affairs with mortal women and the resulting children are demigods. You'll find fantasy violence including swordplay and monsters. Percy's mom is apparently killed in front of him and his stepfather, who drinks to excess, used to hit his mother.

Percy Jackson is generally read at around age 10.

They are teenagers and act accordingly. There is talk of affairs and gods sleeping with mortals. I think the first book also has the bit in the nightclub where they're all drinking and losing interest in everything other than drinking and "having fun" wth the glamorous people in the nightclub.

DS1 read them in year 5. DS2 has just started the first one and he is also year 5.

I would suggest for a 12 year old (trying to think of the less obvious books since he'll probably have read the hunger games, divergent etc)

tripods series
the boy in the tower (good first introduction to EOTWAWKI type books)
Northern lights (first book in His Dark Materials)
The secrets of the immortal nicholas flammel
the power of five series
Eragon series (called the inheritance cycle)

Thanks to WeAllHaveWings too, he has actually just finished The Cursed Child but it sounds like the subject matter is even more grown up in the Percy Jackson books. I'll have a scan through one myself first. I'm glad I asked before I gave him them!
