Christmas ideas thread for those with teenage DC's

Following the fab Christmas bargain thread, I thought I would start a thread for those with teenage DC's, who can be difficult to buy presents and stocking fillers for.

My DS's will be 12 and 14 by Christmas and I remember last year they were struggling for ideas for presents, so I don't suppose it will be any easier this year. I haven't really given it any thought yet, but time is marching on!

So get your thoughts/links coming!

Anything quirky delights my 13year DD I start in the January sales and every time I see something and think Oooh she woud love that, I get it and stuff it in a box at the back of the wardrobe. By Christmas I usually hae enough to cover Christmas and her birthday at the end of Jan and the great thing is, the cost has been spread over the year.

DD1(15) and me were discussing this in town today.

We decided American sweet shop had great possibilities, also DDs favourite foaming imperial leather and body shop shower gel. Body shop strawberry body butter for DD2(12) as she hammers her hands doing gymnastics and that's what she likes to rub into them.

Nail varnish goes down well as would other make up. Lint choc balls and choc oranges. Socks, scarves, cDs, DVDs clearly. Lip balm. Earrings (instantly lost sadly, both are hopeless). Hair clips. Paper chase type note books, folding rulers. Nice pens.

Pfft, girls are so much easier to get stocking fillers for than boys!

I posted this on the stockings thread so apologies if you read both and think I'm repeating myself.

2 teenage DDs and their stockings include:
Make up (foundation, concealer and mascara)
Bra and pants - usually a matching set from New Look
Socks
A paperback
Body butter
An iTunes voucher (Morrison's tend to have a good deal on before Xmas)
A chocolate orange
Headphones
Umbrellas

I have stashed a pair of vans for DD2 thanks to the bargains thread.
I'm also looking for a Big Bang Theory t-shirt for her
She'd like a Cath Kidston travel bag and wash bag - I'll get these from the outlet store later in the year.

I'm buying a kindle cover for DD1
A cinema gift card (she's a student so the cinema is a rare treat)
If last year is anything to go by then she'll ask for a going out dress and a branded hoody or joggers.

They both need new slippers (very cold floors) and I'll keep my ears open to find out if they are after particular books or DVD box sets. They also love cheesy Xmas sweaters.

I'll be watching this thread closely as DD 13 and DS 14 but DD not into girly things just footie, so very hard to buy for.

Starbucks or Costa gift cards went down well with my teenage nephews,

deordorant/shower gel gift box
special mug with hot choccie sachet, mini marshmallows, choccie curls etc
that's all I can think of atm

For my ds's:

some lovely and soft fingerless gloves
maybe a new beanie
totes toasties socks.
I always get them new PJ's at christmas too.
Guinness book of records or similar
They'd like some adventure time stuff (!) they are a bit obsessed with it
One wants a slanket as well
itunes cards

Report
MyBoysAreFab · 23/08/2013 09:21

My younger DS is into Adventure Time too (I secretly like it as well)
A slanket is a good idea - keep them cosy when on their games consoles...
Mine always get new pj's too.
Books and DVDs are always good.
Younger DS also into Manga drawing.
Older DS is into skateboarding so will maybe get him a branded beanie/gloves.
Maybe a gift voucher for skateboard lesson etc

I do still like to buy them little nicknacks and stocking fillers, but don't want to spend a fortune on things just for the sake of it -they would probably prefer if they just got money, which I suppose will happen eventually but want to cling onto christmas traditions as long as possible.

Whitards or green and blacks hot chocolate. Gloves (last year, not lost yet). Umbrella is a brilliant idea DD2 has pinched mine.

Bras, pants, yes done this also pretty vest and matching pants from M&S. both DDs have lacy jumpers so vest tops go down well. Non school coloured/patterned tights.

Sorry no use for boys, DHs stocking always contains chocolate, chilli sauce, fancy spicy chutney, posh marmalade and things like peanuts and Bombay mix (yuck), socks, shower gel and beer.

Never had to do stocking for young boys (no DS and DH and I both have a DSIS)

I do hot chocolate every year - and I add either mini marshmallows or squirty cream - that goes down very well.

Can I point you towards the Qwertee facebook page. They do a new t-shirt everyday, it's only available to buy for 24 hours and it's £10 including postage. Full of lots of geeky designs doctor who, star wars, big bang, adventure time, my neighbour totoro etc. I've had a few from them both for myself and as gifts and the quality is really good but best of all I've got a pretty unique T-shirt. I can't remember what the deal is with returns however.

DD 11yo is no problem to buy for. Into her nail varnish/bath smellies/earrings

DS (14 in December) - total nightmare Hmm

He loves money. He doesn't spend the money. He keeps it in a jar until it goes to the bank. His £50 note sat till April until I put it in his account.

X-Box points
Not clothes - not bothered- but we got him a Sheldon T-Shirt (red one with the man-robot ).
I buy him pants/socks in his stocking. He needs new ones anyway.
I buy him bath smellies , maybe Lush.

He gets gadgets ( emergency charger, earphones ) during the year though.

Ds1 (14) and ds2 (11) are getting the new Xbox One between them this year, so will only be getting the odd few bits on top.

Last year though was a nightmare. The only thing ds1 asked for was Xbox games. So after consulting the power of mumsnet, I got to thinking about his hobbies. Ds1 is in cadets, so I made him a cadets/survival kit hamper. So all the things he would need for going away to camp that he didn't already have, were put together in a big box. Ds was made up routing through and fiddling with all his bits.

Other hits were, Game of Thrones book, voucher for Game, smellie sets, Holister aftershave and a Holister hoodie.
