Christmas

What's your 'must watch' Christmas film?

I want to add a new one to our collection. The DC love watching Chrismas films (and so do I) through December, so we have quite a few already:

The Santa Claus
Charlie Browns Christmas
Home Alone
Elf
Mickeys Christmas Carol
National Lampoons Xmas
Muppet Christmas Carol
Polar Express
(they also watched The Grinch on rental last year and were a bit scared of him so have crossed that one off my 'annual' list)

We also have some we watch ourselves when the DC are in bed:

The Holiday
Love Actually
Die Hard
Wonderful Life
Meet me in St Louis

So can anyone recommend a couple of new ones for me to add to our collection this year? A new one for the DC and a grown up one would be good Smile

How about Holiday Inn? That's the one that includes Bing singing 'White Christmas'... so evocative!

Home Alone.

The Family Stone
It's one for the grown ups but a really great film.
All the Home Alone films are great for the kids too

Home Alone. But I realised the other day-

Kevin is bullied by his siblings.
Kevin is abandoned by his parents.
Two creepy burglars creeping round the house knowing child is alone.
Irons in the face, hair set on fire etc.

Happy Christmas! Still love it though. Grin And Home Alone 2 even more.

Ooo I love Charlie Brown's Christmas

DD loves the The Snowman
Narnia (not really a proper Christmas film but Christmassy none the less)

I like 'A Christmas Carol' (the one with Patrick Stewart in it) but I also INSIST on watching 'Scrooged', with Bill Murray in it. When I was younger I would enjoy 'Santa Claus the Movie'...

We watched "Search for Santa Paws" yesterday (it's on Sky at the moment) and it is one of my favourite festive films now.

What's 'Nativity' like? Never seen it and it's on at our local cinema for £1 this weekend.

Santa Clause the Movie.

It's an oldie but a goodie and it's not Christmas until I've seen it.

Nativity is awesome! fond memories of working at a certain video store last chirstmas and having it on constant repeat.

Our 3 "musts" are Elf, Nativity and Muppets. Others are good but those really get us feeling christmassy

I might go mad and blow £4 on Sunday Mrs Twinks!

Love Santa Clause the movie, dc's like mickeys twice upon a christmas, and The Polar Exresss.

Must admit the last couple of years we have watched Bad Santa after they've gone to bed Blush

I should probably have said that 'Scrooged' is not one for the kids. So I am saying that now.

Nativity is fab! I took the dcs just before Christmas last year and had a little happy weep.

Bad Santa is brilliant (only for grown-ups though!)

You already said the best ones:

The Santa Clause

Muppet Christmas Carol

and It's a Wonderful Life

But what about Gremlins? (not for really little ones obv.)

We always watch The Snowman and Home Alone together on Christmas Eve.

I love Mary Poppins, Love Actually, The Family Man and Its A Wonderful Life. I have to watch them every year, now.

If you like those cheesy made-for-telly Christmas films and have got Sky, check out channel 327 'Christmas 24'. I've been off sick the last couple of days and have been overdosing on soppy Xmas films Grin

Mine love The Polar Express but they're both only 2 & 4. I remember going to the cinema with my dad and twin brother to watch Home Alone. It was a real treat, as my dad was always working when I was young. Loved that film.

I'm going to shamelessly take note of these ideas though, and buy some more films for them and me Smile

Second Star To The Left - bought it years ago from Peacocks on a 4 videos for a fiver deal. Hadn't seen it before, it was just bought to make the numbers up. It is brilliant, the kids really love it. Very gentle animated story. We watch it several times every year. It scores 7/10 on IMDB. It is on my list of videos to be replaced by DVDs eventually.
