Please help - what are the "in toys" for 9/10 year old boys this year?

I am really struggling to think of something to buy for my new (ish) nephew - my brother's step-son - for Christmas. They live 300 miles away from us so we do not see them often and so I have no idea of what he has got but it sounds as though he is the boy who has everything. He is a lovely lad and I want to get something he would really like. No use asking my new(ish) sister - in - law as she just says "oh, don't bother too much, he has got loads of stuff anyway." Thing is I do not want to treat him any differently than I do my brother's own ( much older) children but I really do not know what is "in" with this age group nowadays.

How much do you want to spend? How about an itunes voucher so that he can download some music if he likes?

That's a good idea. I spent £25 last year. Thanks for your reply

Could you ask what his main interests are at all?

Reason being, my own 9 year old boy's absolute favourite present from last Christmas was a magazine subscription. He loves it every month when his magazine drops through the letterbox. My ds is really into Nintendo games, so he had a subscription to The Official Nintendo Magazine, but his Great Aunt also did a Beano subscription for him and that gives him every bit as much pleasure.

I agree with the magazine subscription. Ds had Kids Nat Geo (via Tesco Clubcard points) and loves it when it drops through the letterbox every month.

Would this be any good? You could get it sent straight to him or get him a voucher to design his own? I haven't got as far as to price it up though, sorry.

My 9yr old ds is having a leapfrog globe, a dart board, lego.

What about cinema vouchers? Or bowling vouchers?

Lego is still the number one gift for my 9 year old.

My ds is 9 and would love lego, a voucher for GAME or HMV, or a NERF gun.

My ds would like an i tunes voucher ,anything national geographic goes down well , microscope , telescope , metal detector etc

Vouchers can be a bit dull for that age (DS2 is 10) but a nerf gun or a magazine subscription sounds fab.
