How we tested

Our tester Alison put the Eufy X10 Pro Omni through its paces both upstairs and downstairs in her family home. Taking detailed notes on ease of use, effectiveness and quality, she thoroughly tested each feature of the robot vacuum cleaner against a variety of everyday household chores.

What's in the box?

Alison was pleased to note the lack of polystyrene in the X10 Omni's packaging. The robot vac is instead packaged mainly in recyclable carboard and just two plastic bags. In the box, you'll find:

  • Charging station

  • Power cord

  • Safety instructions

  • Detachable base

  • Robot vacuum cleaner

You won't find a user manual included with this vacuum, as it's all accessible online and via the Eufy app. On the inner lid there are basic instructions to get you started and a QR code which takes you to Eufy customer support if needed.

How easy is the Eufy X10 Pro Omni to set up and start using?

The charging station and base are straightforward to assemble, so all you'll need to do is pick a suitable spot for them. Eufy recommend a space with plenty of obstacle-free room on either side, so the robot can always find its way home.

You do need to set up the station as close as possible to your WiFi router, to ensure pairing and communication between the robot, charging station and app is as smooth as possible.

The Eufy X10 Pro Omni came with enough charge to show off its capabilities straight out of the box. While pairing the robot with the app and charging station was straightforward, Alison didn't find the app very intuitive, with some of the functions less clearly marked, so it took a while to get to grips with the controls.

What's the Eufy X10 Pro Omni like to use day-to-day?

With Alexa devices already set up in her home, Alison was pleased to see that the X10 Pro Omni is compatible with the voice-activated smart device. While using basic controls via Alexa is straightforward, Alison would have appreciated a full list of controls - as well as the ability to change the robot's name to the one she's christened it with: Horace.

The charging station includes two bins for the robot's self-emptying, self-refilling (with water) and self-cleaning duties, meaning you don't need to lift even a single finger for up to two months. Once the bins are full with dust and/or dirty water, the app will notify you to empty them, which is a quick and straightforward job.

Coupled with these exceptional levels of self-sufficiency, Alison made good use of the scheduled cleans feature. Horace politely cleans her downstairs hallway every morning at 7am - he takes 3 minutes and leaves the place looking spotless. Thanks to his AI technology, he can even tell where and what any shoes are, so he doesn't run them over or get caught in their laces.

Just like other robot vacuum cleaners, Horace has unfortunately been out-foxed by a tasselled rug. However, releasing the brush and untangling him was a quick and easy job.

After a hard couple of hours' cleaning, the Eufy X10 will return to its charging station to empty its tanks and recharge its battery. Sometimes, it does return to the station mid-clean in order to drop off dust, then heads back out to finish its cleaning. Alison found the loud hum the X10 Pro Omni makes when it's charging quite annoying as background noise, but while the robot is cleaning or at rest, it's very quiet.

Eufy X10 Pro Omni

How well does the Eufy X10 Pro Omni clean carpets?

The Eufy X10 Pro Omni works brilliantly on carpets, sucking up dust, dirt and cat hair efficiently. It can fit under most furniture and works methodically, vacuuming in straight lines you can keep track of on the app, should you wish to make sure the robot isn't missing any spots.

If anyone has long hair in your house, the Eufy will inevitably get some longer strands wound up in its brush, but there's an easy-to-operate mechanism for getting them untangled quickly.

While the robot is bagless, the charging station does use a disposable paper dust bag which needs disposing of once full. When used regularly, the bags should last approximately 2 months, and replacements are available on Amazon, currently at £13 for a pack of 6.

How well does the Eufy X10 Pro Omni vacuum and mop hard floors?

After an initial hoover to clear any dust, hair or crumbs, the X10 Pro Omni sets to work mopping hard floors. Using the app, you can designate zones to show the robot where to mop and where not to, so you won't end up with any soggy carpets.

While the Eufy doesn’t perform well against stubborn stains - for these we'd recommend a steam cleaner or good old fashioned elbow grease - it is very good at giving the floor a quick once over, leaving it looking clean and hygienic. Alison has so far opted for plain water rather than Eufy's recommended floor cleaner (currently £21 for two bottles). The robot doesn’t leave the floor soaking wet either – it uses just the right amount of water to get your floor shiny and clean, and you can walk over it shortly afterwards. Once it's finished mopping, it changes the water and cleans its own mop heads, which Alison found very impressive.

Is the Eufy X10 Pro Omni good value for money?

At a whopping £800, the Eufy X10 Pro Omni is quite the investment - on par price-wise with a top of the range cordless vacuum cleaner like the Dyson V15 Detect. It's not the most expensive robot vacuum cleaner around (the Dyson 360 Vis Nav is almost £500 more expensive) but it's certainly at the premium end of the market.

If you have a large house, limited time or mobility, cutting down on housework is priceless, and the X10 Pro Omni is the most self-sufficient robot vacuum cleaner we've tested. As long as it doesn't get tangled in any tassels, once you've given it a schedule it can happily clean your floors and itself without any input from you whatsoever for up to 2 months at a time.

If you're just looking for a robot to help you keep on top of dust and pet hair, it's worth looking at our round-up of the best budget robot vacuum cleaners to see if any more value options meet your requirements. But if you're looking to invest in a high-quality, low-maintenance robot vacuum cleaner you can rely on to take on both the mental and practical load of regular floor cleaning, the Eufy X10 Pro Omni is a brilliant buy.
