How we tested
I tested six of the most popular pregnancy tests to see how they compared. From budget bulk buys to the premium tests on the market, I wanted to find out which tests explained the process most clearly, how easy it was to take the test, how much reassurance you get that you're doing it correctly and how much packaging would go to landfill when the test was complete.
I also timed how long it took to get a result and how easy (or not) the result was to read. But, at the time of testing I was in my second trimester of pregnancy, which probably impacted how quickly the test returned a result.
Ultimately I wanted to find out if there really was a benefit to shelling out £15 for a pregnancy test, when you could spend just 20p.
Buy now from AmazonClear and simple was my go to for TTC [trying to conceive]. I got a BFP [big fat positive] at 10 DPO [days past ovulation]. They are a good and reliable brand.

How does the Clear & Simple pregnancy test work?
You can either pee on the stick by holding it mid-stream for 10 seconds, or collect a sample of urine and dip the test in it for 20 seconds.
How easy are the instructions to follow?
The instructions come in a small leaflet with a diagram. The layout is clear and easy to understand and there isn't as much medical jargon as the instructions for the Boots and One Step pregnancy test strips I tried. There are clear subheadings and diagrams for how to use the test followed by an easy-to-read FAQ section.
How did you use the test?
I used the pee in a cup method but this test required me to submerge a hard plastic section into almost 4 cm of pee, compared to 1-2 cm in previous tests, my cup was quite wide so had to angle it which was a bit awkward. Peeing on this stick would probably have been easier.

How long did it take to show a result?
The box says up to five minutes. I saw my result in three seconds.
How does the Clear & Simple Pregnancy Test compare to other pregnancy tests?
I really liked this test. Compared to the Clear Blue and First Response tests I took, this test did look a little more basic, but I liked that the actual stick was small and relatively discreet.
The instructions were easier to understand and more reassuring than the pregnancy strips and it had slightly less plastic packaging than some of the more premium tests.

Is the Clear & Simple good value for money?
Yes, I think it's really good value for money. It's easy to use, has clear instructions and is not as eye-wateringly expensive as some of its competitors.
Buy now from AmazonI really liked this test. For me, the result was very clear very quickly. The whole process was actually Clear and Simple.

Overall verdict
I’d really recommend these tests to other women even if it was the first test they’d ever taken. I think it strikes a really good balance between affordability and reassurance.
