National Trust AGM

I’ve received an email from the National Trust inviting me and all other members to vote in their AGM. Does anyone know if there are any things a woman’s rights advocate should vote for or against. Eg TWAW by stealth.

Nigel farage is campaigning for a set of candidates to be elected. the Restore Trust

PRAMtran · 04/09/2023 15:04

Is that good or bad for gender critical people. Do you have a link?

It's bad full stop. It's basically a campaign to pretend that slavery never happened and turn NT properties into Downton Abbey theme parks.

TodayInahurry · 04/09/2023 15:22

Read about the people standing for membership and make up your own mind DO TICK NOT tick the box that allows the director to choose the votes! Be aware they hold this in a small building and only allow their cronies in, so you may not be able to attend

I’m a member of Restore Trust and have been since it was set up. @Datum is misinformed about the group, it is a gras ps roots organisation of existing members , trying counteract the increasing influence of the usual suspects on the NT. It has nothing to do with ‘pretending slavery didn’t exist’, but it does resent the forcible promotion of ( sometimes completely imaginary) LGBT+ ‘histories’, and un historical narratives at its properties.

More importantly, we are trying to maintain the employment and influence of properly qualified curators and property managers, who are being increasingly sidelined or even made redundant in favour of the ‘Elizabeth I was a trans man’ brigade,( see thé gay nit comb at the Mary Rose for a similar saga) and to prevent the closure and alienation of several important properties.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 04/09/2023 15:38

It’s not forced promotion of issues like slavery or LGB, it’s simply ensuring that they are included in the round so that volunteers aren’t saying things like “lord fluffyton never married, had any extensive collection of male nudes and lived with a close male companion until his death. It’s always been a mystery why he never married” or not mentioning that a massive Georgian mansion was built on the profits of slave trading

@Allthegoodnamesarechosen

Grass roots my arse.

You're Tufton Street.

Yeah if like to read all the bios but I’d still be non the wiser. I don’t want to vote for a trans ally, and they don’t really write that they hate women in their bios

So you're not bothered about preventing fracking on NT land, fox hunting or God forbid, a decent representation of history, just who gets to use what loo?

PRAMtran · 04/09/2023 16:18

It’s not about the using of loos it’s about the eradication of women

And RT wants to eradicate enslaved women.

PRAMtran · 04/09/2023 16:20

As fox hunting is illegal I doubt if the NT will break the law on that

Oh give over, I don’t want to vote for trans allies that’s it.

They really, really want to do that. That's the point!

It's Tufton Street stuff.

They're funded by Oil and may have links to fracking as well as the culture war bollox.

Suspect that's right up your street. They're certainly unlikely to be trans allies.

PRAMtran · 04/09/2023 16:28

Oh it’s insult time now! Got it. Can anyone else give me a heads up about how to vote to preserve women’s rights and stories at the National Trust?

Insult?

I've told you who RT are. They're not trans allies.

That's what you wanted, wasn't it?

Crikey datum, what a way to win people over to your side of the argument. Aggression and attack 🧐
OP vote whatever way you want to for whatever reason you like!

DatumTarum · 04/09/2023 16:34

I know all about womens stories in history btw.

Never forget the early medieval woman I dug up who had 97 pelvic fractures, some healed, some not from years of childbearing.

Some of those babies were probably the ones buried in slightly earlier graves near her.

Nobody is eradicating her, but RT might. They want a nice, fluffy representation of the past. Not pain and suffering.

Sanitised.

narniabusiness · 04/09/2023 16:35

I did read the bios last time I voted. There are quite a lot! They do tend to make their particular interests clear so you should be able to find candidates you are happy to vote for. Restore Trust have been good at providing a platform to challenge the current thinking at the National Trust but I have been put off by them putting in charge someone who is just out of University and who I would suspect is more interested in building a career in politics/lobbying than in our National heritage.

Rudderneck · 04/09/2023 17:12

Given the utter shite we see in museums and galleries now about various shoehorned topics, and what we hear about the way NT volunteers are being treated, I can't say I am too ready to simply accept that any group opposing that kind of ahistorical, idiotic nonsense is actually a bunch of far right fascists or whatever. That just seems like more of the usual kind of accusation that gets thrown around here.

TheLadyInWestminsterAbbey · 04/09/2023 17:23

I don't see what's wrong with saying that. It sounds true to how Lord Fluffyton lived his life. Probably quite discreetly and without getting a series of serving maids pregnant before abandoning them. And without leaving detailed memoirs of his sexual proclivities.
Why should he now be "outed" by people who judge his life by today's standards without actually knowing what the truth was.
People can use their imagination and/or brains and draw their own conclusions.

MorrisZapp · 04/09/2023 17:27

I agree. If Lord Fluffyton kept his sex life private in his lifetime, then why retrofit him as LGBTQ? You just know these people aren't going to call him gay. I'm sure the description of his life is it's own explanation.
