Women's protests around the world #blackprotest update

I am not sure if I can keep up with everything what's been happening in other countries in the last week but just to let you know there's a momentum growing. We feel that women in various places are beginning to see that they have power and they have to stand up for our rights.

Here are protests and events I managed to learn about.

10-10-16 Seoul, South Korea - In the South Korean version of the “black protest” that swept through Poland in early October, an estimated 300 protesters staged a rally in front of Bosingak Bell at the heart of Seoul, demanding that the government scrap its stricter abortion ban.

16-10-16 Malta, Valletta - Malta's Feminists, men and women, went on the streets this morning in protest against parliamentary committee's recommendation for the morning-after pill NOT to be sold over-the-counter.

Stand with us on the 23rd of October outside the Polish Embassy in London at 1PM !^#czarnyprotest continues!
www.facebook.com/events/628458807315129/

Just over a week ago on the 3rd of Oct, hundreds of thousands of Polish women went on strike to oppose the bizarre initiative by the anti-choice lobby to legislate a near-total ban on abortion, sex education, emergency contraception, prenatal care, and to even criminalise miscarriages. The effect was incredible! The next day, the Polish government was already backtracking on its support for the bill that they have backed in the Polish parliament just a week earlier and 2 days later, the bill was rejected – both by the Polish and the EU parliament just a few hours apart!
As much as we are happy that we have won the battle against the dreadful Ordo Iuris Stop Aborcji bill, this struggle is by no means over. We already have a new anti-choice agenda submitted to the Polish parliament that we have to fight against! Pretty much as soon as the last bill was defeated in the Polish parliament, a new one has already been submitted. The only difference being that apparently women would not be criminalised for abortions which, after reading the actual proposal, turns out not to be true! Not to mention, there is another proposal that surfaced right alongside it, which is setting out to ban many contraception methods in Poland.
^And this is just the top of the iceberg! Poland already has one of the most restrictive abortion laws in Europe, and it is proven by WHO that we could save the lives of 50,000 women a year if anti-abortion laws like this did not exist so these anti-choice initiatives are against all reason. And yet - it appears that the Polish government had also decided that it needed to apologize to the people who wrote the Ordo Iuris proposal for its failure to pass it! Poland is not the only country still fighting this battle.
So And so we are asking you to join us since our struggle is far from over. We will not let our governments in collaboration with the Church decide what we can do with our bodies!^

Women are gathering all over Latin America and building ties within Argentina and across Latin American countries.
Issues affecting women are crossing borders. We have to unite and reach out for each other.
Violence against women shouldn’t go unpunished. There are too many deaths already.
The Patriarchal system protects abusers, perpetrators and murderers and blames victims and women.
We are gathering together and building relationships. This is our time. Time to go protesting on the streets. Time to fight. We will never ever forget. We will fight in what we believe.
WE ARE FED UP!

Another update from Latin America.
Here's explanation of the roots of their protests.

WOMEN’S STRIKE IN LATIN AMERICA: WORLDWIDE CALL FOR SOLIDARITY ON OCT19: www.facebook.com/events/599816086868312/
----------
A call through social networks to take action on October 19 grew into international strike and protests. Over 6 countries, 15 Argentinean provinces and 40 cities overall, are planning actions to demand the end of violence against women. Please support our actions by helping us spread the word! Stand with women in Latin America and everywhere!
----------
A teenager who was drugged, sexually tortured and murdered sparked a fire across Argentina. Women all over the country have been denouncing the torture and murder of girls and women since decades ago. In 2015 the protest “Ni Una Menos” became a nation-wide movement of protests for a life without violence. The horrible details of Lucía Perez’s death, and the example of women in Poland only days ago, demanded to take actions one step further.

An anonymous picture begn to be passed around, with a date and a call for a national Strike of Women, in the name of Lucía Perez. Then a few of us created a Facebook event for it and then thousands and thousands shared it. The group of journalists “Ni Una Menos”, who coordinated the protest in 2015, called for a meeting with national women leaders and independent women reached through social networks. The strike was then official, and several unions and political parties confirmed their support.

Women in Chile, México, Uruguay, Bolivia, Perú and Costa Rica -and the list keeps growing- are organizing for action. Most of our reach is through social network and independent media. Please support women throughout Latin America and everywhere! Here are some actions you can take right now. We’re counting on you!

--> Share this and any other information about our strike in social networks and any other place you might see fit
--> Confirm your assistance to the events in each city, in solidarity and to help them stay visible. Invite other people to do the same.
--> Make actions to help increase visibility in social networks: take a picture with a supportive sign, make a flyer, a meme or any shareable image/text.
--> Contact the media and provide them with this or any information about our strike.
--> Learn and discuss about the importance of organized actions in the struggle for women’s rights and in today’s world.

Thank you for reading!

So proud of you and all the Polish women who have been the torch carriers for this conflagration!

If there are events elsewhere in the UK, please let us know. I won't be able to get to a London thing, but there are plenty of Polish up here in the boonies who might want to protest too!

Thanks for this antimatter. Amazing work by all these women.

Wednesday looks like being a really significant day for Latin America. Perhaps we can make a concerted effort to publicise it in the Western world more - tweet and facebook - to show some solidarity then?
