It's been all over the news today. There's a pay gap before people have children. But once a woman has a child the gap really starts widening (I think it was 30% ish by the time the eldest is 11).
I'm sure there's a whole host of reasons this is happening but what's the best way to tackle it?
My personal feelings are better part time careers that include decebt career progression. And getting men to do more parenting wise. Making work more family friendly with flexible and shorter hours.
Paid paternity leave to be taken when the mothers maternity leave ends could help.
From my personal view point I see a lot of dads doing pick ups (on the odd occasion dh can't drop off I see dads dropping off too). But there's not many dads who are part time - loads of mums though and that will really affect their pay throughout the whole of their lives.
Just wondering if anyone else has any views?
