So am I allowed to give myself a small pat on the back for 10 years of feminist inspired parenting?

I must admit I'm not a huge fan of her work as a whole, but think that song and 'Firework' are pretty on-message...

I was listening to these with dd, almost 6, today and thinking the same. She likes "Roar" more, I prefer "Firework". It actually makes me a bit emotional, I find it really hopeful and uplifting.

Just watched the video on YouTube. What a pleasant surprise after all the awful videos we've discussed on here.

I don't think I would let an under ten listen to Beyoncé's new album or the previous one. The two albums even though they have good messages behind them, it's geared towards the older age group. Also whether your prepared to explain a few things to a child when you may not want to. It might be best to pick out songs instead of listening to the while album.

I would stick 'roar ' and fireworks.

It;s also the favourite song of my ds, aged 7. It's her theatricality that appeals.

I love firework Smile

Lemonade is amazing but I wouldn't let a child listen to it, lots of swearing and adult themes!

Thanks all. Lovely to think of all our dcs being inspired by such positive messages. I agree about the video - it's all about survival, autonomy, self-reliance. -And yes, in an ideal world my kids would be singing songs about community and togetherness too - but it's a shitty world and this is a good place to start.

I didn't know anything about her beyond she was married to Russell Brand. I've had a quick look at some other videos. The music isn't my cup of tea but the videos are interesting. Dark Horse has her as an Egyptian goddess/priestess. She is very pretty obviously but she doesn't seem to be using sex to market herself.

I love ROAR, I listen to it most mornings while I brush my teeth/wash my face, it gives my mornings a great start listening to a powerful message.

Oh, I love it, too. DD (5) belting out "I've got the EYE of the TIGER a FIGHTER...." has me welling up every time!

In the same vein as Roar (and sounding very similar tbf) is Sara Barielles' Brave, which I love too.

Katy Perry is fabulous.
There was a song on her album called, I think, Pearl.
It breaks my heart.

DD was just singing Fight Song, by Rachel Platten, which is also pretty positive.
