Just a small thing but it pisses me right off

Dd needs a new bag for school. She has no tolerance at all for carrying anything heavy, so I was looking for a bag with wheels cos I am not going to carry her bag for her.

Anyway, there was obviously one stand full of bags in girl colors, and one full of bags with boy colors. ONLY the boy bags were slightly larger with wheels. The girl bags were all smaller without wheels.

This is to carry books and folders to school. In what world do girls have different size school folders?

That would get right up my nose too. Even leaving the sexist issue of the colours aside the fact that the boys bags have wheels and the girls bags dont says to me that its ok for the boys to have wheels so that they dont have to carry theirs but not for the girls so that they can struggle to carry their heavy books trailing behind (because of the weight of the books) because thats where you belong.

Girls don't need to carry books, silly! What would a girl want with anything heavy.

Girls only need small bags because they only have to carry lipstick and a mirror. Boys need big bags to carry books, sports kit, football etc.

Plus girls shouldn't take up as much space as boys. They should be small and petite and definitely not getting in the way on the pavement.

I meant all that as sarcasm but I'm struggling to come up with any other explanation Confused

KissArse Wink does DD want a bag with wheels? Will she actually use a bag with wheels? I think they aren't in 'girl colours' because they know think girls are more conscious of not looking like twats Grin I'd put money on none of the girls wanting a bag on wheels!!

Jesus I'm glad you aren't my mum buying a school bag. Does anyone under 70 use a bag with wheels?

So uncool I feel almost need to report to SS

Actually, just had a flashback...my mum bought me a Roy Cropper style shopping bag to use as my school bag. I had to use it for 3 years. Never forgiven her.

Does it really matter that much if it's in 'boy colours'? Why not just buy it anyway?

Ok, I'm in the US and every kid has a school bag, lots of them have ones with wheels. I have since found a whole section of them onAmazon and got one for dd in pink (it matches her lunch bag). It's a backpack with wheels underneath. Kids here have to provide their own text books so schoolbags a big deal.

Those asking about color: one rack was pink and purple and light turquoise colors, the other rack was black, blue, grey and camouflage.

I promise you I won't be scarring dd for life, she wants a bag with wheels nd I will have to surgically remove the old one with a broken zip cos she luffs it. Also,it does double duty as hand luggage when we travel. And I point blank refuse to carry it for her so wheels the only solution.

Oh, and dd, who plays Minecraft and doesn't like girly toys at all, insists on pink bags. Anyway, she has approved the bag so I have ordered it.

Now, do you all want to hear about the trauma that school lockers can create? You can get chandeliers and mirrors etc in pink and purple, even furry lining to make the locker pretty. If you want a more utilitarian look, you're back to boy colors! I refuse to get involved with the inside of dd's locker. She can sort it out herself. Generally she forces the bag in by kicking it, puts her lunch bag on top, the piles everything else randomly. One time she got confused and took all her books on a trip instead of her swimming things and lunch. Sometimes she hides in there.

The joys of American childhood.

I totally get the school bag with wheels thing. In every country I've lived apart from the UK pretty much all kids have them, because they take their entire days text books etc into school with them.

The locker decoration thing is new though. Chandeliers? Give me strength! Grin
