Doesn't surprise me. The guy who raped me as I slept believed he did nothing wrong.

The stats in the article are terribly alarming.

It makes for awful reading, but to be honest it doesn't shock me at all. The attitudes expressed in the article only reflect the general attitude to women - that they are there for sex and that it is up to them at all times to fight men off. If they don't fight men off then they are fair game. Men will naturally seek sex by whatever means possible and women should know this and guard against it if they don't want to be raped. If they are raped, then they obviously didn't guard against it well enough.

The idea that women actually enjoy sex, and seek good, satisfying sex for their own amusement is still completely foreign in today's society. We are still expected to put up with whatever sex we are subjected to, and if we are subjected to sex we don't want, well tough luck, that was our own stupid fault for not being careful enough. If the sex is just crap well you do it anyway to please your man.

Shocking that even 5% of young men would think it acceptable.
I was talking about sex education with DD (22) last night, she is covering it in her PGCE at the moment and will have to teach sex ed to high school children in her form once she starts teaching.
She said she was dreading it but I said to see it as an opportunity, to be able to emphasise how vital consent and enthusiastic/active participation are when having sex, hopefully she can blow a few rape myths out of the water too.

Hmm, methinks there be a hairy, smelly, Scandanavian dude in the room - one who likes sexually demeaning insults in Russian. (reported)
