It's an enormous puppet, basically. It is making me well up a bit and I'm not sure why.

She's just so BIG weeps

Maybe it's just that it would be so lovely if little girls were able to command that sort of presence and attention and take up that amount of cultural "space" in a positive way, just for being who they are ... does that make sense? The scale of her gives her such impact. I love it, but it also makes me think of all the real, small little girls who suffer for being small and vulnerable, iyswim.

I appreciate that is probably quite a personal reaction to it but fuck it, it's art so that is OK. I just wanted to share it :) And also to go Shock at the puppetry and technical skills that go into making something on that scale so expressive.

Were you, lockets, that's cool.

I was thinking about it as I watched dd and ds play with the doll's house before bed - the real children surrounded by much tinier doll figures instead of the other way around.

I'm not aware of the context (assuming it is part of a longer production with lots of puppets) so I don't know whether it is in any sense a feminist piece of theatre or informed by any feminist sensibilities.

But I found it produced a really powerful reaction in me that was definitely to do with having a feminist viewpoint. I guess I was wondering if anyone else shared that response.

Just watched it, thanks for posting the link.

What a beautiful piece of theatre. And I liked that the protagonist was a young girl. I know what you mean about her taking up space on a physical level, there are no exhortations to tread softly or be delicate or ladylike. She is entitled to take up space and the masses adore her for it Smile
Go forth and conquer young woman!
