Just a warning really, if you've got feminist leanings you may well find this tiresome and highly irritating like I did. The only woman in it floats around being ethereal and comely and motherly and nowt else, and I swear to god she whispers the entire time. I know it's set in the 50s but women were repressed but not 2D back then. Bechdel test: total fail.

Saw Captain America, and surprise surprise - Bechdel test failed.

I didn't think it failed the Bechdel test, didn't it have one (very short) convo between the wife and an old woman who told her the pain fades (ergo they were talking about death or am I being far too generous in my niterpetration)?

It failed every other test of enjoyment, interest, engagement etc. though. It was the biggest load of shite I've seen for years. The last time I was that bor4ed in a film, was the appalling Piano with Holly Hnter. Turgid stuff

HerBex yes there is that scene you're right - it depends whether you count it as being about death in general or about the loss of her son, I suppose. My reading was she's emotionally consumed by the male character at that point, he's the reference point for it all. And not sure that other woman had a name?

Maybe some of the dinosaurs or swirling amoebas were female though?

oh god the dinosaurs and the swirling amoebae - and the fire and the fucking clouds

It was painfully dull. How sad it is that Hollywood directors think that being hideously portentous, is the same as being profound. Oh god they are so limp.

How is there only ever one woman in men's lives, one they actually care about, according to films? Some kind of mother/wife hybrid?

(Not referring to this film particularly as have only seen the trailer)
