Some of you who read Playing with the Moon were kind enough to enquire about my next novel. It's out today, and it's called Restitution.

It's about a family in Germany caught up in the Soviet advance, and what happens when the daughter falls in love 'across the lines'. There's a glam. former filmstar mother with a compromising past, and a German resistance father. And lots of Red Army conscripts with rape and pillage on their minds.

Best price is, as ever, Amazon ('fraid it's (Macmillan) hardback at the moment, with the paperback out in May). Most libraries should have it, too, I hope.

Excellent! Can't wait to read it!! Playing with the Moon was absolutely amazing. I read it about a year ago and I still think about the story line even now.

Eliza...do you have an input on the cover design of your new book? Just wondered because when the saying goes 'don't judge a book by its cover' etc...the cover alone would've attracted me to the book!!

Eliza...it's a real page turner. I actually look forward to going to bed just to pick it up again. I've got as far as the four of them stuck back at the house of Alix and her family with Gregor tied up in the cellar!..actually not quite half way through but such an excellent read. I love the way you flit between the years...one minute we're up to date and the next we're back in the 1920s!

Anyone out there who wants to read something gripping...read this book.

I'm now as far as Gregor discovering the empty bed! ie...the one where 'he' was tied to it!. I can only think Alix's Mum has more to do with all this than the book is letting on at the moment. Blimey, what a good book.

There are books I pass on when I've read them and there are some books I would keep and read again....this book will be one I would keep. I can still remember Playing with the Moon...and I think if you can remember a book so clearly it must've been a great read.

Eliza...you are clearly an absolutely excellent writer. Are you writing anything else atm? Where do you get your ideas from? Restitution must've taken some time to research all the facts and figures, iykwim.

Restitution took me about six years to write--though I wasn't working on it all the time. Once a year I'd take it out and have a fiddle and read some more background books. I quite like the research but it's hard work and if you change even the minutest detail of the plot, back you have to go to check that the history still makes sense.

My DH got sick of having a whole load of history books in the bed each night as I desperately checked Russian troop movements. He said he kept banging his head against them.

Alix is now on the run..determined to find her Father. I'm a bit worried though cos I seem to have missed a bit.....did she get caught in the woods by the Russians? Because she's now realising she's expecting or was that due to Gregor? I'm sure I read a bit when she was on the train with all the others living rough that she referred to the Russians in the woods but I don't remember reading that bit! Help!
