This Is The Day by Daniel Blythe? I have just started it and am wondering whether other people liked it.

I've heard of the Author yes.
He is meant to be quite good, is this the 'serious novel' he has written? I know some of his other books are more non-fictional.

It is certainly not serious! Flirtatious, hedonistic, superficial are words that spring to mind.

Is it any good? The way you describe it sounds liek you're slightly shocked.

Am reading it at the moment. Am about half way through and enjoying it to a certain extent, but not finding it a real page-turner. Don't find the main 2 characters particularly appealing, would avoid her in real life! But will persevere and see how it pans out.

Well I am slightly shocked in that I expected it to be more literary than this. Uplifting it is not. Not as bad as Freya North, maybe; some wit but little philosophical backbone. I agree with Posey that the 2 main characters are not very interesting and i don't care about them. Other characters are a bit one-dimensional. It reads a bit like a tv drama, all must-have fashion accessories and not much substance. The prose style is sometimes leaden but that wouldn't matter on tv as long as the dialogue sparkles and it does in places.

I think the author is capable of much better than this. I feel like Prof. Bhaer reprimanding Jo March for sensationalism in Little Women.

How far into it have you got? I find I can quite easily bore of a book if the end doesn't interest me.

Victoriansqualor, the meaning of your last sentence eludes me, but I am 150 pages into this book and despite all my complaints I am going to read on. It is discounted on Amazon, which is just as well (grumpy old woman speaks) because it's not worth £10.99.

Lol, I mean no matter what may be going on in the book if the actuality of the ending won't keep me wondering I can't finish it, however even if a book is rubbish if I want to know what happens at the end I force myself to carry on iyswim.

Well I'm glad I persevered; lots more happening towards the end. The plot really picks up after the middle.

I still find the whole thing quite unbelievable even though the intention seems to be gritty realism.
