not all it's cracked up to be.

Reads a bit like a movie script to me.

Not really enjoying it ,another one fo those books I plough through because I feel I should finish it.

Dh adored it but I felt the same as you. Took me ages to get into it but I do think it's worth finishing as 'stuff' all comes clear.

Me! I thought it was a pile of over the top gothic shite.

i thought it was a bit schlocky (, is that a word...), but it did grip me.

has it all got something to do with Fermin the assistant in the book shop? Is he really the mad caretakers son?

I thought it was pants. Is just begging to be made into a film. Had "Richard and Judy" all over it like a rash.

Couldn't get into it at all. Tried last year but gave up about half way through.

I quite liked it, thought it was a book of 2 halves though. Needed to plough through the first half to enjoy the second. Although thought there were superfluous characters.

carried on with it again last night

still see it as a film script

which always annoys me in books

have no feeling for the characters at all

cremola-some of the bits I read last night were a bit racy for a 12 yr old!

i know ggirl , but she liked the storyand the iseda of the cemetary of forgotten books is right up her street. i don't have a problem with that really. more worried about gore and violence.she loves gothic novels and there is much worse in those.she has also read a lot of phlip pullman and he dealswith all sorts of subjects like drug dens and prostitution.
she does talk to me about it thought soi am lucky i suppose. she also loved Time Travellers Wife- so a bit precocious i suppose.

I thought it dragged on and was quite relieved to finish it by the end!

Other than that it was pleasant enough.

I liked it. Especially liked the peculiar jokes - wasn't sure if they were just badly translated Spanish idiom or just completely out of place and surreal - either way it was funny.

I absolutely loved it ... but it's a Marmite book, that's for sure.

it was very funny very Spanish somewhat allegoric but not a weighty serious literary read.
bit of fun is ok sometimes, read it in less than a week

loved it - totally loved it - but saw alot of the plot coming - very gothic - great to escape to

I really enjoyed it though like ktk18 guessed much of the plot before it happened.

DH and I both loved it, but mainly because we have had lovely (pre children) holidays in Barcelona and that made it a bit special, but I can see what you mean about reading like a film script.
