I've got to go to my first book club on thursday to talk about it. I hated it. It was so utterly unoriginal, predictable and slow paced . I feel bad turning up to meet a bunch of people I've never met before but have kindly invited me to join their club only to slag the book off to the nines.

Can anyone give me anything positive to say about it?

It is almost entirely ripped off from Upstairs Downstairs, so some of the plot is ok.

Hmmm wasn't a fan of UD either. For me it just reeked of Rebecca & Titanic.

it's dreadful.

I can't think of anything positive to say about it.

I couldn't even finish it. It got a big fat zero from me, and most of the people at my book group. Only one person liked it (and she's a bit odd, anyway!)

I'm struggling with this - it reminds me too much of another book I've read recently which is based on an old dear being interviewed for a TV programme (I think Kate Pearson is the author)..... too derivative and the period detail is either overdone or missing.

Hmm, not many positive things. Well, it ends.... eventually .

There was a whole thread about (at least in part) how dreadful this book was. Will try to find it - not very constructive, but was funny.

This is the thread I mean.

Really not a good book. The words "Richard" and "Judy" on the front cover were vital clues that I chose to overlook!!
